And people say anons are cowardly…
Well played.
I REALLY LIKE HIS MANE!
I did say that an animator COULD genuinely just like Cardboard Sentry over Generic guard #5.
Unlikely.
You’re forgetting a third option. An animator or writer simply liking Flash’s design or using him because he’s one of the few named and voiced guards. Just because it pisses off the fandom (well, a vocal part of it) doesn’t mean they put it in just for that purpose. It could have just been convenient for them.
I just seriously doubt animators and other staff members really stop and think, “Well, how is the fandom going to react to this,” and then use that as part of the decision making process.
I said it COULD not that it IS.
You don’t have anything that says it COULD NOT.
It COULD be someone from higher up wanting Flash to become part of the secondary cast. Or it COULD just be some jackass animator that gets their jollies from pissing off a vocal minority of the fandom.
However, what seems more likely and less mean spirited? A higher up asking for him for marketing reasons? Or an animator putting him in after getting permission, contacting Vincent Tong to voice him out of spite/genuine love for a cardboard cutout of a character that could have easily been replaced by generic guard pony #5?
Last I checked, you were the one that put forward the idea that it was a higher up. If you’re going to make that assertion, use something to back it up. Don’t just say that it was and then tell others prove it wrong.
That’s the thing; we really don’t know who requested it, but in the case of Flash’s “Three’s a Crowd” cameo, we do have some evidence that one of the animators put his cameo in there.
Hoo boy… Then there’s this guy.
Do you have any evidence that it WASN’T someone higher up? I’m just working on conjecture here, if you have something that proves the animators were the ones to insert Flash in the finale, write his dialogue and contact Vincent Tong to do his voice, please provide it!
Yeah, and I doubt that the line itself wouldn’t have been in the script at all (it was probably just a generic Royal Guard saying the line in the original script).
Except at the time of making that episode, Rainbow Rocks wasn’t coming out soon. And yes, for the most part, the animators can put whatever background/minor characters in a scene that they want to. Which includes Flash.
I love this mentality the fandom has. Anything that shows up in the show that they don’t like, it’s always the fault of some higher up.
Perhaps.
I doubt the VA was the one making the request, or just some random animator asking just to piss off the fandom.
If I had to guess, it would have been someone higher up the chain with Rainbow Rocks coming out soon to keep Flash as a relevant character in both the show as a reminder and EQG.
That’s the one I was talking about; the one where people were b***ing about how Meghan “lied” to them and acting like his 3-second cameo with ONE line ruined everything.
And note that Jim doesn’t specify WHO made the request to put him in there; it might’ve been a higher-up at Hasbro, it might not have been. Heck, for all we know, Vincent Tong might’ve made the request himself.
He wasn’t in the script (McCarthy) and it wasn’t an animator doing it on a whim (animators don’t write lines of dialogue- it was done by request with Flash’s VA reading the addition to the script).
The most I saw was someone b***ing about how Meghan had “lied” to them.
swoon
Got a source for that? I can’t find anything about Dreamy Cutebottom’s finale cameo in Big Jim’s twitter feed.
I never read it so I can’t judge, (though I wasn’t really bothered by some of the things I saw of it honestly) but yeah it is getting annoying how bent some fans got over that. It’s also a shame it got fans kinda angry at Cook & Price as I like their works on the comic personally.
@Jarkes
Yeah, I agree, he was quite clever regardless what some fans say. I think they’re just used to more subtle-villains after Nightmare Moon, Discord, and Chrysalis.
@Background Pony #4B63
Dude, everything she does is a meme now. :P
Not in the case of the finale. Big Jim casts blame on the higher ups at Hasbro Inc. for that as a change to the script and animation- McCarthy didn’t write Vincent Tong’s line and I’m pretty sure an animator didn’t write the script either.
Maybe for Three’s a Crowd. But I doubt it.
smooth, suave and smug you say?
IDW has you covered
I would kill for Flash Sentry to get the IDW treatment and turn out smooth, suave and smug.
