Oh nooo! This character has a tragic backstory! What do you expect, she’s the villain. I’d MUCH rather have my villain explained then have her just be in there “just cuz”
 
And oh nooooo! She has a SCAR over her eye how DARE SHE!!! It’s not like she beat “frog man” showing how tough she is and maybe, just maybe, she had earned that from doing something similar…
 
And I won’t even point out calling some thing edgy because of its a color scheme. Trust me, I hate cliche, ya see Bunga from Lion Guard and Stitch from Lilo and Stitch’s cousin over there, Grubber? Yeah, seen it, hate it. But I just don’t see what’s wrong with Tempest. Maybe if she didn’t have this “tragic backstory” that most likely EXPLAINS why she has a scar over her eye I would understand the hate.

Scar has a scar, a few shades darker color scheme and an angular, slender face structure. This bih has that AND a broken horn, black armor, and tomahawk. Scar hardly even comes close to being this overdone.

I just know if The Lion King were released in this day and age, you’d be calling Scar an edgy OC too.
 
But bronies are just never happy with anything Hasbro gives them, and will complain about everything regardless of whether or not it’s worth complaining about.

Red and black, scar over eye, tragic backstory…these are all very, very common “edgy OC” traits
 
add in the broken horn and you’ve got something that indeed looks like it was pulled right out of DeviantART.
 
Glad to see that people will readily defend cliche and uncreative character design, though.

it’s neat how her busted horn sparks though.

Agreed. Given that she seems to be a very physical fighter, her picking up some scars along the way makes sense.

Okay, am I the only one who sees Tempest’s design as a typical villain design, NOT an “edgy OC” design?
 
Seriously, the red and black color patterns, the scarred face, etc., have all been a standard part of villain design decades before FIM. This is just a continuation of that tradition.
