I wonder whether the CMC are still getting Discord’s help with cutie mark ideas. (Or whether we’re jumping around in time again.)

That’s the thing, which is true of 90% of the MLP stories. The plots are all rehashs or retelling of morals/lessons we all learn. But it’s the journey of the episode/story, how it’s presented, that can make things more interesting than just a retread plot. Here for example, is potential for world-building if they are going on a road trip, and exploring the various ways ponies make cross-country trips as well as what sightseeing is.
 
And as a note, everything about how this story is being presented suggests that they only get to Applewood at the end, spending most of the issue on the road trip aspect.

Here is a thought. Rarity pow wows with movie stars… AJ thinks Rarity has abandoned here but Rarity comes through at the end with social connections.

Could be good if it avoids just being another rarijack story where they need to compromise and respect each other
