It’s a manga from the author of “Claymore” (actually, his first work) about a boy with a frightening face, but the heart of an angel who battles misunderstandings over his appearance with kindness. Because of another mustake he becomes the “leader” of a gang of thugs, falls in love and does various things, usually solving situations through lucky coincidences that result from people completely misinterpreting his well-intended actions.

It is a nice manga with a small cult following. To Westerners Japanese sometimes seem to have an odd (even unrefined) sense of humor (though you can often say the same about American television…) Manzai comedy in particular always failed to make me laugh.
AS though uses a standard comedy of errors plot (misunderstanding piling on misunderstanding finally leads to happy ending by happy coincidence) that any reader would immediately feel familiar with. There are a lot of sweet or tear-worthy moments too.

Another curiosity is the evolving art style which starts out as quite bad and turns into rather pleasant by the end.
Norihiro Yagi was still starting out when he wrote it so you can see his technique developing thorough. Even pages between chapters are littered with Yagi’s sketches.

These entire four pages about the Apples and the horse are lifted directly from the first chapter of the manga.
