Truth be told, B&R is not a great movie, but I still enjoyed it. Also, technically, shouldn’t it be called “Batman & Robin & Batgirl?”
Also, odd alot of the promotional material ignored the fact Bane was in the movie. (3 heroes VS 3 villains is kinda cool.)
Even though, he was kinda a shallow, mindless, flunky/sidekick version of the character.

Yeah, campy superhero/supervillain puns are nothing new, or unusual, and they can be amusing sometimes. Though, they kinda went overboard in the movie on some things.

The odd thing is, the original “Heart of Ice” animated episode that first made Mr. Freeze truly popular was also full of ice puns

“That’s MISTER Freeze to you!”

“The monster who took you from me will soon learn that revenge is a dish best served cold.”

“Sooner or later all who stand in my way must feel the icy touch of death!”

Even Batman joins in on the fun:

“The only way to fight a cold.”

And even ignoring the ice puns, Mr. Freeze definitely seems to have a grim and dark sense of humor:

“It would move me to tears, if I still had any tears left to shed.”

So yeah. I don’t have a problem with the puns per se. It’s just that dark, grim humor works much better with a dramatic story like this than campiness. Plus, the puns in “Batman and Robin” were just terrible.

@Roboshi
Well, I don’t mind some campyness, heck, even the darker “Nolan” Batman movies had some campy/funny things about them. (Like the way Bane talks.)
In fact, I loved the “Batman: Brave and the Bold” series, (Especially, the hilarious Bat-mite episodes.) which I felt did a good job balancing the camp, with the darkness.

The credit card gag just seemed out of place in that movie.
Hilariously, when me, and my sister watched “Batman & Robin” for the first time as kids, my sister predicted almost all the ice puns. Like when they showed Mr. Freeze’s lair, my sister remarked, “Looks like Hell froze over.” (Cue Freeze saying that later in the movie.)
Not to mention when his cronies showed up my sister said, “they look like hockey players from hell.” Robin then literally says that a few seconds later. (Which made us laugh.) There was another one, or two we also predicted, but I can’t think of ‘em at the moment.
It’s really hilarious that even as kids we predicted some of the puns.

I like it, it’s a great callback to the sillier days of batman’s adam west version that was allowed to have fun.

Don’t get me wrong Batman and Robin is a bad film, but it’s not down to the style or campyness it’s down to bad writing and storytelling.

And the biggest problem is that the kneejerk reaction to this film resulted in a batman no one can smile at. Stuck in a 13 year olds idea of what edgy is.
