Actually, “password” is one of the three most commonly used passwords, followed by “12345” and “12345678”. Sad but true.
The trick is to use a password long enough to make it harder for bruteforcing programs. Hackers usually don’t sit and guess away when they can let a program run every possible combination, but each letter multiplies the possible combinations by a few hundred.
I once protected a server with an 84-letter password consisting of a short poem. Took a while to type in, but try bruteforcing that.
“How about 1-2-3-4?”
“Hey, I’ve got the same combination on my luggage!”

The trick is just to have one or two passwords you use all the time, and change a little from situation to situation.
oh, I remember that kind of password system alright.
“Hello dear user, as we understand, you are far too incompetent to make and keep a safe password, so we’re making it both difficult and hard to remember any and all passwords you can think of by making it mandatory to have 5 of numbers, capital letters, small letters and symbols. Thank you for your understanding, signed, temporary employee.”
