Most “bronies/MLP-fans” I’ve known on places like DA are female. Most of my male friends aren’t that into MLP.

Agreed, we’re all fans in the end no matter the gender. That’s why I get a bit disheartened when some female fans claim they feel “excluded” in this fanbase, or feel it’s “guys VS gals” for some odd reason.

In my impression, this fandom is predominantly female. No big surprise if that’s the case.

Usually people don’t identify by their gender (or anything else, really) when online, so it’s of no consequence if something-something has to do with one gender or another. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter.

Hi, Tumblr. :)

Also, kinda odd to say nobody “cares” about female fans, even though some of the best fanartists, and cosplayers are female MLP-fans or female “bronies.”
I’ve seen women who call themselves bronies to, so it is more gender-neutral lately then it used to be. Though, some prefer “pegasisters” as a term for older female fans, to differentiate from the dudes a bit.

@Draco_2k
Yeah, some just use it for either gender, I’ve seen women call themselves “bronies,” or “pegasisters” before.

Well, “brony” as it first appeared did indeed mean only men who liked the show, because girls liking it would be of no surprise to anyone and thus not worthy of anything to call them other than “my little pony fans.”

It just sort of ballooned to mean ANY fan of the show over time, despite the literal meaning.

Yes it is a terrible name and I wish it nevr became the accepted name, but it’s far too late now to fix it and it will be forever known and labeled by ever single article and news report ever about how Bronies are MEN who like my little pony, MEN who like FiM. And yet no one says anything about anyone who isn’t a man and likes it, no one cares. BROny. You can’t tell me that ‘brony is gener neutral’ because in the eyes of the world at large, it is not.

Yes I am just a bit angry.

While I appreciate the message here seems to be a positive one, I’m not sure where this idea game from that bronies walk around indignantly insisting we’re labeled as such.

Actually, it’s being syndicated to newspapers. Apparently it’s a very new strip, so it’s probably not in more than a few dozen papers or so at this time.

It’s part of mainstream culture now, for good or ill, and as such it is going to be referenced from time to time. I’d just hope that most references would be funnier than this one…
