I know. Me missing the point of your joke and ‘educating you’ was the joke on my part.
yes i know all of these things for very specific reasons it was a joke and a very old one at that
Unless it’s a chemical/gas, grease, electrical, or metal fire. Some chemicals can react with the water and make the fire worse, the flaming grease floats on the water and will spatter to spread the flames, the electricity can travel up the water and electricute the fighter, and metal fires are only excited by the water and made worse and tend to burn at such a high temperature that hitting it with water can even make the equivalent of an explosion.
Water is actually one of the worst and most inefficient methods available of fighting a fire, as it operates on the principal of robbing the flaming material of it’s heat energy (Not smothering as most people believe). It’s just widely used because of it’s cost and ease of access.
Also, random fun fact, did you know baking soda will extinguish an electrical fire?
