The End wasn't The End - Found a new home after the great exodus of 2012

True, but then again the only reason why they could get away with it, is because the USSR (and the Russia, China, And South Korea after the USSR broke apart) was paying for all of it because they wanted a buffer state . And the other three because they don’t want to deal with the millions of refugees (and Russia wants cheap labor, yeah North Korea sends workers into Russia to cut down trees)

The book was made at a time where communism was gaining influence, so the fear is justified.

Anyway, the book is less about the severity of totalitarianism, but more how our passivity and apathy towards what our govt does leads to giving up our free will easily.
North Korea has to accept its crappy state of living because the Kim’s hereditary lineage advocates a propaganda that makes the populace more likely to be brainwashed and deal with everything without the need to fight back.
