Stupidity or not, that’s no excuse on the Kelpie’s part. I personally wouldn’t mind so much if she apologized for her actions, but she doesn’t even give a simple “I’m sorry”! I think that would have made all the difference as a character for her.
Exactly. As I’ve said elsewhere they should’ve cut from Angel telling the animals Fluttershy’s gone, to him heading into town and used the ‘we have to search for her’ page to instead have Cassie explain why she went to extreme measures. I would’ve accepted ‘I met pirates’ or ‘The last group I asked for help tried to kidnap them’.
It dosen’t bug me as badly a it does some people, namely I think the actual RD/Twi scene could go on unchanged with the expanded explanation of her reasoning which some had a problem with on it’s own, and I still enjoyed the comic as it was.
I expected they look scary.

poorly constructed, yes. but i rather hate the term ‘oc’ being used for idw/show canon material. in this case, it’s just bad writing.
still enjoyable, though.

What this reminded me of is the ST:TNG episode “Clues” (this is where all but Data find they appeared to have lost a few days despite Data’s claim otherwise, they finally find what happened, to learn that they lost those days as to protect itself). What was important with “Clues” is that the ending was long enough to understand the motivation of both sides. The planet that was trying to stay hidden would not be considered evil, just with a very difference sense of justice as to achieve their own ends (killing the entire starship crew as to maintain their privacy). Similar concept here, particularly as we enter the story in medias, and have no idea what Cassie tried before.
If there was even 2 more panels on the next page, maybe with Cassie saying she was afraid to ask from past experiences, or something like that, it would have been stronger. But I read it as that type of stuff is implied going on as they are helping to transport the water spirits to help Cassie understand how to handle this better in the future.
Yes, I want to learn more about Cassie and the water sprites but this issue wasn’t clearly set out to make them in-depth characters as to focus on the Pet 6.
That is a little disturbing.
Yeah, I thought it was rushed, I do dislike it, the Kelpie looks like an interesting character. They did not give us much to go on except that consent is not a big dea for this one.
So they introduced an evil character for the plot, okay, let’s just not whitewash the evil part. Twilight helped someone who doesn’t give a fuck about her friends because she is a good person, okay, doesn’t make the Kelpie alright.
I can’t deny that within the only two pages of actual talking dialog, we had no statement of, effectively, “I’m sorry” from Cassie, and Twilight gives the “we should not punish her” speech in all of two frames:

I don’t buy it. She knew what she was doing, she just couldn’t give a fuck. The retard defense does not apply here, you hear her talk she is not that stupid. She tried to run over Ponyville and when she was caught she begged for mercy and got it, but she is evil.

Again, evil doesn’t mean there aren’t more evil out there, she is still evil, just slavery and destroying the livelihood of thousands evil.
How many times on the show has “Poor Communication Kills” been evoked? I mean, for all purposes, Cheese Sandwich did the same thing, ruining Pinkie’s life and friendship. Heck, Pinkie’s lack of explanation of how to rid the town of parasprites would have left them without food (and that was before Twilight got involved) Yes, Cassie could have asked, but then there would have been no plot here. Something has to introduce conflict and if it is potentially something threatening to wipe out Ponyville, so be it. The point of the show, and the comics and other EU, is showing the value of how you atone for your missteps, and that’s what’s here.
Also a point to consider: they’ve made it clear that materialism is not a major factor as it is to ponydom as we as humans tend to value it. Oh, the town got wiped out? They’ll rebuild - they’ve done it before. (with a hint of the magic reset button each show).
Pretty sure that’s not a prevailing theme, but other than that, did she actually show regret after the fact or was she just approached with a ‘there, there’?
There’s a step there that the other Breezies were probably too much into FS’s care to remember/not as levelheaded as Seabreeze that they needed to get over.
But I mean, consider here that Cassie wanted to remove the dam to provide a continuous water path for her sprites. It would have flooded the empty town, but it wasn’t a act of pure malecious intent, just stupidity. (in contrast: NMM making night last forever, Chryssy sucking the love of all ponies, Sombra enslaving Equestria, etc.)
And of course keep in mind the theme we keep running with: love and tolerate. Cassie f’d up with a plan that wasn’t well thought out but the ponies forgave her and offered to help after discussion. Yes, resolved too fast, but it’s a resolution that fits 100% with the show’s theme.

No, Seabreeze was leaving a bunch of adults behind after thoroughly warning them, not the same as slavery and destruction of thousands of homes.

That, no. Slavery and forcing people into homelessness is. This Kelpie decided to ruin a bunch of peoples lives rather than stoop to talking to them. That is fucked up.
You know it is fucked up, you know it doesn’t compare with Seabreeze, she is a cruel creature that does not give one fuck for ponies and is willing to hurt them at the drop of a hat.
Time to realize that maybe because she had a real problem, does not excuse in anyway the acts of evil to solve it. She was not desperate, just ambivalent.

That, nor this, is “evil”. Malformed intentions, yes, but not evil.
… By the definition “enslaving everyone to destroy their lives work without a thought to them because you don’t bother to even try to ask for assistance.” Is the definition of Seabreeze? No. Just no, don’t try to jam this square peg in that round hole.

She tried to force her slaves to destroy their homes for her own selfish reasons. Evil is a word that describes her. Maybe you can point to more evil people but at the end of the day, she is still fuckin evil.
There’s one panel in the comic that has a poster that looks like a music concert sign (that’s how we get her name and species). It could very well be the town went to the concert and were easily influenced right there.
not really. best i can guess she took control while they were sleeping using her song. do not think she intended harm simply wanted to help the sprites. the mermares from the comics also were mistrustful of land creatures.
By that definition, so would be Seabreeze.
