You noticed that too? I figure it accounts for deliveries like the Cake twins being common enough not to make headlines. Between toon elasticity, easier-to-pass fetal proportions & quadrupedal hip robustness, I’m pretty sure FiM moms have it easier than RL equines & humans alike…though it’d be interesting to see if alicorn fillies (e.g. a Shiny/Cadance kid) differ at all.
I blame more cartoon style.
Not as projected as the picture I posted, but like that lol. Do realize foals in the show are usually a lot smaller then a normal foal. They are like our newborns
Oh, I’ve been aware for some time that RL equines project sideways more than anything (good example shot there). This artist has a solid eye for mid-term mares & slightly horsier FiM characters.

Yeah, a little subtle, but do realize that this is realistically what a horse/pony looks like when they are pregnant. Most of the time it shows on the sides, despite what the fetishy kinda pictures depict
