To make the scene a bit more painful, directly BEFORE this, Sunset Shimmer helps Twilight off the ground by giving her a hand, then when Twilight lets go, she’s surrounded in a hug by her friends that Sunset steps out of.

Though at times, she shows she has the only authority to really control the students, should she choose to. All they knew was that Twilight “had to go”, so that’s really all they need to know.

Really? I got the impression that other than the Humane Five, Sunset, and Twilight, nobody knew about it until Twilight went through and it closed behind her.
 
Which is another point towards the two Celestias having little in common. Princess Celestia probably would have checked for this sort of thing. Principal Celestia just doesn’t seem that involved in what’s going on at her school. Like for example, when Twilight came in, Principal Celestia seemed to be only half-listening to her.

Yeah, that definitely wan’t good, but on the other hand she managed to pull through and now everypony seems to like her
 
On the other hand, if you go back to evil, your new partner drains your power and drops you like a sack of garbage.
 
So Sunset’s probably better off sticking with the handful of people who were ready to give her a second chance and waiting to see if anyone else will come around.

No, no, being socially awkward would be getting in the way when knowing, clearly, that they’re happy to see Twilight and ONLY Twilight. They’ve had Sunset there for the year, remember?
 
She knows what they want, thinks she’ll ruin it. Let’s face it: She lived several years thinking power and control were the keys to life. Having that overturned, she’s likely never going to fully accept who she’s become, even if others accept her.
 
And aside from those five girls (not Twilight, at least not entirely yet), no one HAS, so that makes sense.
