They interact a lot during the season 4 finale (Twilight’s Kingdom) if I recall, just no snugglies.

Their reunion moment was even more snuggly and tender, but you’re right I think, I can’t remember another time they were affectionate on screen like this.
 
My headcanon is that Sombra is indeed a major influence on Luna’s change into Nightmare Moon, which is why she was so very uptight and skeptical about Twilight earlier, and why Celestia shows affection to Luna the moment they know the Crystal Heart is returned. Maybe Luna gets to close a chapter of her past?

Before this descends into any sort of unnecessary drama-in-the-threads-fest, let me just elaborate on why I’m being so aggressive about this.
 
This is quite possibly the only intimate gesture seen in the show, besides their reunion in the 2nd episode when Luna reverts from Nightmare Moon.
 
And it is entirely platonic sisterly bonding.  
They are sharing a moment of love that does not have anything to do with sex.  
Why can’t you people just leave it at that? :(
 
That said, if there’s a pic of these two making out, or being suggestive, please: by all means, make all the naughty remarks you like.
 
What you’re doing here is just encouraging a warped dissonance of what is actually occuring on screen.
 
Non-sexual love is beautiful love too, you know.
