Then you must have loved the execution of the Pocket Universe Kryptonians during Byrne’s run after they rebooted Superman. Superman Vol 2 22.
And in that case, Superman had already permanently depowered them with Gold K. At least in MOS, Zod wasn’t helpless or unable to fight back, or even able to be placed in a containment facility like the Pocket Universe criminals could have.
Since the beginning of the fight it was clearly stated that Zod was going to die no matter what, but unfurtanetely his death was poorly delivered by lazy writting and that’s what ruined it.
And second, that “this a movie about Kal-El cosplaying as superman” well at least the donner version bother to gave him years of training before his debut.
Faora was the best thing about MOS.
To be reasonable, I laughed immensely at his death. :D

I actually rather like it, they actually have potential chemistry in both powers and personalities… and it be kinda fun to see a story revolved around the two.
