”: (Translation) This might be one of the most factually wrong, insulting, and misrepresentative movies I have ever seen in my life. It takes the work of Hunter Patch Adams and makes a mockery out of it, just for the sake of plucking at your heartstrings.”*
“Seriously though, this movie is particularly infuriating.
I mean, I get it. I know what they were going for with this one. Its supposed to be a feel good movie about a guy who challenges the established system in American Health Care, by trying a new approach to medicine. Its kooky and rather eccentric, but it also tries to have a lot of heart and relatable characters and situations.
And what can I say about Robin Williams? He gave here one of the most memorable performances of his career. Say what you want about it, but this movies emotional center was in how he delivered every line and every expression.
Now, dont get me wrong, all these elements can make for an excellent movie, but it all gets ruined because of how it misrepresents the real Patch Adams and his work. Its so bad that even he himself felt insulted by it. When a movie misses the point and ends up insulting the person its supposed to be honoring, then you know you have done something wrong. This is what happens when you have an incompetent director and a crummy script filled with rancid emotional fudge, mixed messages, fabricated facts, and really questionable ethics (stealing supplies from a hospital!? Are you for real!?).
The only silver lining to come out of this movie was that thanks to it people are learning more about the real Patch Adams and how amazing his work is.
And now, if you’ll excuse me, I need to go decipher this Medical Talk. I swear, I seriously dont know how doctors understand even their own hoofwriting.”
