I’ll be tricky to track down those sources again. One came from DHX’s fiscal report for 2012, to give you an idea that it was years ago.

“the breakdown for major projects over $0.10 million for DHX Vancouver was $5.11 million for
My Little Pony Seasons 1-3”

“For Q4 2012, the
breakdown for major projects over $0.10 million for DHX Vancouver was $1.63 million for My Little Pony Seasons 2-4”

I’ll have to keep digging to find them again because it was years ago.

@Creshosk
“When Hasbro purchased the first season of Friendship is Magic they also purchased season two, three and four and a Movie.”

Do you have a source for that? Because this is the first time I’ve heard it.
Creshosk

@Lucas Osse
If that’s what you want.

I’m not overly familiar, but I don’t think the mods would ban you simply for having a difference of opinion. So long as its kept civil and all. And I hope I didn’t offend you. though it doesn’t have anything to do with being a brony in this case.

I just feel that its fair and just to apply the same freedoms to everyone. If you agree to do work for someone, then you should do the work according to what you’ve been hired to do. I expect to have to do that for people who hire/commission me, and expect the same of those I’d hire/commission.

It’s fair to have the same standards for everyone, isn’t it?
Lucas Osse

@Creshosk
Look, I’m going to stop talking now before mods ban me, it’s clear my negative opinions are toxic to this website and I should refrain from speaking them out, I apologize if I wasted your time.

I don’t want to argue with anyone, especially not random internet bronies, so let’s just say you won the debate and leave it at that. See you around, hopefully discussing what we like, not this argument bullshit.
Creshosk

@Lucas Osse
If it doesn’t bother DHX enough to not accept the work why should it bother anyone else?

It’s not like Hasbro is forcing them to work. DHX agrees to the work.

As I mentioned in another thread, When Hasbro purchased the first season of Friendship is Magic they also purchased season two, three and four and a Movie.

At the time the sequel and season five were not purchased. These were purchased later.

Which means that DHX already knew what to expect after having worked on four seasons and a movie. Since they don’t seem to have minded the conditions enough to not agree to the contract renewal… Why should either of us?

Plus there’s a television series of Equestria girls called Equestria Academy which might be done by DHX.

So rather than not minding, they seem to enjoy the work. If this IS their artistic expression and creativity, who are you to question their artistic vision on the grounds of defending their artistic vision from those that own the property?

Is it simply because you don’t like what they’ve come up with? Isn’t that hypocritical to denounce controlling of other’s art by trying to control their art?
Lucas Osse

@Creshosk
Alright, one last comment since you weren’t a douchebag about it. I was the most rude in this comment section really, and I apologize.

I’m mostly concerned on how fucked up capitalism is, you have a huge corporation allowed to create artistic work sorely to turn people into mindless consumers. They may hire artists that have to bow down to their every will, instead of given room to take risks and produce something that’s creative.

And we don’t really let independent artists take off, because they pretty much don’t have money for advertisements, gives them no choice but to join the big corporations. It chokes creativity and all of entertainment becomes about numbers and the shareholders’ will.

Doesn’t it bother you? At least a little bit? How so called “artists” only become successful because they’re rich and popular and regularly pander to the audience, not because they are skilled? How people just continuously accept the same drivel over and over?
Creshosk

@Lucas Osse
It has nothing to do with brainwashing. It has to do with property rights.

DHX was hired to do a job. Hasbro has final approval of what they paid for.

That’s how the world works. Just as you have approval if you were to hire an artist. So to does everyone else.
Creshosk

@Lucas Osse
“And why is this ok? Why is it okay for a company to make a TV series that’s basically one giant advertisement?”

Because they paid for it. They own the rights. It’s their property.

Would you be happy paying for something and then being forced to take something you don’t want?

If not, why should Hasbro?

And you’re really making a mountain out of a mole hill.

Hasbro has stipulations and specifications, and beyond that DHX is free to be as creative as they want within those specifications of the owner of the property.
Lucas Osse

@PonyPon
Eh, Naughty Dog gets full creative control, so does Radiohead and David Bowie. We don’t know how the true quality of the show would be because Hasbro keeps forcing their hand on it, this really applies to anything else that had CEO meddling.

@Background Pony #C824
And why is this ok? Why is it okay for a company to make a TV series that’s basically one giant advertisement? Why can’t we let people take a creative spin on the show and maybe take some risks? The people in charge have millions, if not billions in profits.

If, gasp the risk didn’t work, it’d have a little bit of a loss so the CEO can’t afford buying a new yacht! The poor guy!

@Lucas Osse
It’s a toy franchise, it was at the beginning and always will be.
If you don’t like it then, well, you’re not obligated to stay.
Lucas Osse

@Background Pony #C824
Nah, what I’m complaining about is how Hasbro keeps milking this franchise, instead of letting their talent go on and do something they wanna do. But hey, the suits on Hasbro gotta keep that dough coming so they can maintain their 1% life style! So it’s all O.K.!
Background Pony #6EE9
@Lucas Osse
I couldn’t be bothered to read every post here, that’s pretty much what the image is, and it’s a common cause of arguments on here, it was a logical conclusion to come to.
Background Pony #6EE9
@Lucas Osse
Oh my goodness no one ever gives it a rest.

Fine, Flashlight is the most evil thing ever and I should be burned alive for enjoying it. Does that make you happy now?
Lucas Osse

@Background Pony #CA90
I just find it rather pathetic how artists are forced to slave away generic work to corporations, instead of unleashing what they want to do. We could do with more work that actually took people out of their comfort bubble and that wasn’t just ripping off a competitor for their market.

Fans don’t take a stand on this fact and that we’ll be fed the same garbage forever because CEOs with no touch in reality have to make more money to build their own islands while people starve on the streets.
Background Pony #F512
@Lucas Osse
This entire series is because of Hasbro stifling Lauren Faust’s creativity, giving her MLP instead of accepting her pitch for a Galaxy Girls toyline and series.

I wasn’t a fan of the first Equestria Girls movie, but as long as its effect on MLP:FiM is minimal, it doesn’t bother me that they keep making new movies and/or a new series. And hey, there’s always the chance that DHX will make something in this setting that I’ll actually enjoy.
Whonk

So, what should we add to Trixie’s title now? I’m thinking “The Great and Inconveniently Powerful Trixie Lulamoon, Distruster of Wheels and Saver of Waifus”
