I agree. However, the point is that Twilight must have a love interest in the movies. They tease it but never solidify it so that it’s not iron-clad. At the same time, it doesn’t hint at a relationship with a pony that appears in the main series constantly, so it’s something they don’t have to commit to.
Basically, it’s situational shipping to sell the movie. We’ll never see Flash actually become her boyfriend (I hope) because he’s just a movie love interest. That said, if they make another EQG film, I would not be surprised if these two finally smooched.
Of course, it might also simply be a shout-out to FlashLight fans. Not sure, didn’t see the movie so I have no idea how big a role Flash actually plays.

I KNOW RIGHT?! That’s what pissed me off most about this flick. I notice the same issue with Shining Armor and Cadence. You’d almost forget they were even married because they are NEVER given any real development with it. Even less than Flash and Twilight get.
Hopefully, and I can’t stress that enough, there is something going on with that bit after the credits that might give us either a spin-off series of Equestria Girls, or another movie. Regardless, have some sort of DAMN RESOLUTION. As much as I love this ship, I would rather watch Flash and Twilight friend-zone each other and Flash get back together with Sunset Shimmer (which I originally suspected would happen) because they develop feelings for each other. Even THAT is preferable to what they keep doing with these two. It makes the love sub-plot even more pointless.
You know, I might not have such a problem with these subplots if they actually DID something with them other than just put Flash and Twilight in cute situations together. Where’s the conflict (outside of Flash being a jerk when under mind control)? Where’s the character development? Where’s anything to make us believe this relationship will GO anywhere? I mean, we already know that there’s no way any relationship they develop will have long term impact on anything, so if we’re going to HAVE these romantic subplots, they should at LEAST do something interesting with them outside the usual “they’re into each other” moments.
You can try to claim they were already leaning away before Trixie interrupted, but they’d stopped leaning back and were eyeballing each other again right before Trixie appeared in an obvious “So uh, do you want to-” look.
And while we’re at it, it doesn’t matter that Trixie got in the way, the only important thing is that Flashlight’s still a thing and continues to be a thing.

Yeah, but it still felt kinda pointless. As in, well, they hugged. Yay. Can we now wrap this thing up.
Frankly, I was surprised how “casual” the movie felt in many regards. Like Twilight actually not having all the answers this time, the bad guys despite being more influential than Sunset last time actually barely doing something inbetween singing their numbers and the focus really being A LOT on Sunset to the point the movie actually ends with her side of the story instead of Twilight’s. Not that I am complaining about it, I was just surprised it went this direction, making Twilight of all ponies pretty much the third wheel this time
@Background Pony #8E64 Then he tells Twilight he is glad she is back again, but when he finds out she performs at the competition he is nasty to her and there is no real follow up.
The way I see it, the hug is the follow up. Just like everyone else, he was under a spell. Therefore when he hugged her, it was like nothing happened because he probably doesn’t remember being mean to Twilight. The spell was broken at the time.

Same here. Unfortunately it doesnt change the fact that in this movie he realy did not contribute the slightest thing to the overall plot. When boiled down it was just the following: First scene confirming he actuaklly still has a crush on Twi and hopes to see her someday. Next scene with him he is like everyone else taken over by the competetive streak of the Dazzlings. Then he tells Twilight he is glad she is back again, but when he finds out she performs at the competition he is nasty to her and there is no real follow up. Instead after the Dazzligns are defeated he just hugs her as shown her and that is it. He doesn’t add anything to the resolution of the conflict, whatever conflict he and Twilight could have go through does not even get of the feet and in the end all you may be left with is wanting to slap slightly corrupted Flash for being nasty to Twi and Sunset, as he did not apologize even later on.

I have nothing against Flash in general, but damn was he useless in that movie. Like he actually had more reason to be in EqG1 than in that movie.
You know what, now that I’ve watched the whole movie, this wasn’t even much of a anticipated kiss anyway. They were already moving backwards before Trixie showed up. We can all continue to breath again, though I’m not sure about the next movie/spinoff series. Maybe Scilight will push him off finding him rather annoying xD
The contract said so.Push Ken/Barbie romance. The focus group want it and the numbers never lie and always mean quality

Yeah, I remember that like it was yesterday.
Oh, wait…
It’s a short movie too. It’s barely over an hour.
I was just surprised it went this direction, making Twilight of all ponies pretty much the third wheel this time
I remember a time when the complaints were that it was “The Twilight Sparkle Show”, so…
And while we’re at it, it doesn’t matter that Trixie got in the way, the only important thing is that Flashlight’s still a thing and continues to be a thing.

I honestly don’t get the hate for him. Actually the hate is quite annoying. I’m neutral on the guy.
Scilight? Is that what we are calling her now?
i’m slowly starting to like him… meh…

This happens more than once, you know? Though the 2nd time they both felt awkward anyway.
