I don’t see the loss of the E/I designation as the reason for the lack of focus on personal interaction, but it certainly did change things, especially in Season Two. Lesson Zero seemed like an experiment in just how much they could get away with. Then you had Cider Squeezy, which was quite clearly, if only implicitly, about ponies drinking booze. It was almost like an homage to The Man Show.
 
Then there were all the GenX pop culture references. There were a couple in Season One (the Benny Hill sequence comes to mind), but Season Two was packed with them, the Star Wars ending being the most obvious. Season Two had a new target audience. I think that was the biggest change, although the personal interaction scenes continued until the end of the year. I remember that Ponyville Confidential had some great ones.

There was like a picture that details how Fluttershy was wrong.

It’s something I’ve considered for a good long time, now. I do wonder what the show would be like if it kept its E/I (Educational and Informative) designation. I remember a good amount of debate popping in Season 2 when we noticed that was missing.
 
I personally think it was fun when the show pushed against those boundaries set for it as hard as it could.
 
I also still think the show is still fun, mind you, but I do miss some of the charm of S1. I do also wonder if it was the novelty of the show that appealed, or was it something else?

Indeed. The best sequences always happened when they kept the stories extremely simple and filled in the time with the girls just talking to each other and sharing observations from their individual perspectives.

me too… back then the show was just getting its feet wet and had lots of potential stories to tell
 
i guess it’s exhausted most of the simple & charming ones so it has to tell more elaborate tales now
 
but there’s nothing we can really do about that :(

I still remember coming to the realization that a sequence featuring two colorful cartoon ponies talking about French fashion was witty and humorous. At the risk of inciting drama, god do I miss that aspect of the show.
