Cutie marks have a number of different possible interpretations. Among the ways one can read Sunset’s are leadership, the balance between light and darkness, and, more prosaically, burning things.
 
Thats a pretty good lede into a moment of awesome.

Those are all good interpretations, yes.
 
I tend to imagine that while Twilight is a very broad generalist, learning all sorts of magics, Sunset is more focused on spells that manipulate or generate energy. Including all kinds of magics that handle fire.
