I don’t see it as a threesome. In my head canon, Anon was captured by crystal guards when he first entered Equestria. Despite being sentient, Cadance and Shining decided to keep him as their pet. Even though Anon initially resisted, he grew fond of the pony couple who were very loving and caring for him. This picture is from one of their snuggle sessions. The only reason Anon’s not wearing anything is because all of the snugglers love feeling fur on skin contact

Well…least it’s better than those crappy stories about Cadence or Shining Armor leaving the other for the first pretty face they find.

In all seriousness, it’s because they’re fictional characters. I’m wary of coming off like one of those guys who drones on about how much they simply adore whoever it is they’re talking about and clearly take the whole thing too far.
 
Carni just has this wonderful ability to capture emotion in his drawings, with the likes of Velvet and Strap, for example. It would be so easy to take that down the stereotypical route but it’s always clear they really do love each other. _{And on that note, I will remain forever grateful for how he shows Glyph and Cherry Pie as just another couple, without resorting to crass stereotypes.}
 
Though I will freely admit I have a soft spot for Shining. And I recently broke up with my boyfriend so I’m still feeling a little sort.

I don’t see how being envy of someone being loved by two adults who love each other as much as they love the third person to the point of being able to willing (and wanting) to cuddle with each other is something to be creeped out about.
 
Unless your envy has caused you to think of some… ‘horrible tragic events’ that might befallen Anon there so that you can take his place…

If being with Shining meant going bi for Cadance… Hell, I’d do it in a heartbeat. She’s one of the few mares I’d turn for.
