Actually, I’d write that as 1 and 1000 ;) 1001 would be One-thousand-and-one, although my 1st grade teacher would [verbally] smack me…“one-thousand-one”. No “and”.
 
And back to the other point you brought up: 1000 can be read as “one thousand” or “a thousand”, both of which would work when written as “over 1000 years old”. Sorry @OptimusPrimevil, it doesn’t work either way you say it :D

Still pointed it out first, even if a tad more vague. Also, either a thousand, or one thousand; A, in this case, is synonymous with one, so either works grammatically.

To be fair, depending on the way one reads it, it’s not a typo; it can be read a thousand years, you just have to realize not to omit the one.

When I see “1000”, I read it as “one-thousand”. And then my grammar brain goes “Aaaagh!” :)

if the prequel comic is any indication, sunset shimmer is older than twilight but when twilight went through the mirror when she was older, they’re practically the same age as sunset. but they did state that the mirror system isn’t fully tested so things like that are expected.
 
the scary part is brickleberry MIGHT animate this joke (but probably with really old vampire teens)

Oh maybe the writers just wanted to make an interesting but not well thought out backstory that is kind of getting exhausted by this point (Seriously, old equestria must have been a real s***hole).

Maybe the state the world was in when the sirens got there is identical to the way it was when Sunset and eventually Twilight got in.

1000 years, assuming time passes equally in both universes.
