In Equestria in the Ponyville district, a very prominent geisha named Yukiko (Once Rarity, before she was given her geisha name) lives independantly without a danna**, but is very sought after. After being sold to an okiya at a very young age, Yukiko began learning the art of the geisha while being a servant to Mother**. Yukiko excelled at kabuki dance, and began her first steps out into the world by being the Younger Sister**** of Ayame (formerly known as Fleur de Lis) and was constantly sought after by many folk.
 
Yukiko finally paid off her debts to her okiya before setting out on her own, finally selling her mizuage**** for a high price to pay off for an apartment in a well received part of the city. Yukiko is constantly asked for as a danna’s companion, but wishes to not be reliant on one, although with today’s prices for housing she is begrudgingly starting to look at offers.
 
At the moment she is searching all of Equestria for her younger sister Sweetie-Chan.
 
This will be an ongoing AU. I’m going to do Rainbow Dash, then Twilight, and go from there. :P
 
 
*A danna is usually a very wealthy man who takes on the geisha as his partner or mistress. He pays for her make-up, her home, her performances, etc.
 
**The Mother is the head of the okiya, who finances and controls the geisha.
 
***When geisha are ready, they will ask or take on a pupil. The older geisha who is training is called the Older Sister, while the one being trained is called the Younger Sister. There is a ceremony which makes the two much like real sisters, almost as if they adopted one another.
 
****A mizuage is where a young woman’s virginity is sold and bought for a price, depending on how popular that geisha is.
