I guess it basically boils down to them being basically a “random encounter” in the FF issue, and the big threat that looms over the whole story for this two-parter. But that’s a meta reason, not an in-universe one.
Still, it’s weird seeing these guys devastate an entire town when last time Applejack and Rarity fended them off armed with only… Actually I don’t think they even had their luggage at that point. So with their bare hooves. It’s like somewhere between the two incidents, these guys became a whole other thing.
He was with them in the FF issue though.
Maybe cuz they’re on their own turf in this one? There’s more at stake with the town being in danger? Donno.
I guess that’s as good an answer as any. Mostly I just wanted to make the “steeroids” joke.
I’ve heard people say its because they have their leader with them now.

Yeah, just today in fact, and she kinda doesn’t. Hopefully next issue, but I’m not sure I can count on it.
I agree that Katie Cook kinda messed up there, but have you read the entire comic? Surely Twilight finally comes round and blasts those bulls.

To be fair, she was kinda holding the idiot ball for a bit there. Not to mention the reason she gave isn’t true, or else she wouldn’t have zapped those pirates about a year back.
I don’t blame Twilight, though. I blame Katie Cook for not giving Twilight a better reason to hold back, like “There’s too many of them, and once I start shooting, whoever I don’t take fast enough could hurt the townsponies.”
And I didn’t say otherwise. This here is extremely well done art.

Sorry. I just had a feeling after people thinking Twilight was useless in the comic.
