I don’t mind the vignettes Christmas shorts. (Which were pretty amusing as they adapted the comic strips.)
But man, that’s a bummer. I hate it when they edit shows for TV to make more room for commercials, or something… (Sally’s & Lucy’s scenes were especially funny.) Heck, it’s impossible to watch old Simpsons reruns without something edited out. (Including some favorite parts of mine from some old eps.)

Y’know, when it was first made, the network (CBS originally, I believe) actually tried to preassure Charles Shulz to edit out Linus’ li’l touching speech about what Christmas is about. (Because they felt it was to long, or to “dull.”) Shulz actually had to fight ‘em a li’l to keep it in.
Even looking at it from a secular standpoint, he’s not exactly promoting religion, (which some die-hard atheists complained about) but it’s more-so Linus saying that “big things” can come from the most unexpected places, (whether it’s a baby clothed in rags in a manger, or a li’l dinky christmas tree) and the season is about good-will torwards all people.

Geeky Fact: Shermy was the original protagonist in the “Peanuts” comic, before being slowly phased-out/ignored in favor of other characters.

No, but they cut out other classic bits like Snoopy munching on the huge pile of bones, the snowflake eating scene, Sally’s ‘tens and twenties’ letter, Lucy and Schroeder’s ‘Jingle Bells’ segment, and Shermy’s only line (“I always end up playing a shepherd”).

In past years they set aside a full hour for the complete show, and filled the rest of the time with ‘Charlie Brown’s Christmas Tales’ (new vignettes based on various Xmas-themed Peanuts strips).

Really how? Did they edit out Linus’s li’l touching speech, or something?

I saw “Santa Claus is Coming to Town” the other day, and they did make a new “Toy Story” TV special. (That I missed, but I liked the other TV specials they did.)

You’d think so, but the networks have gotten really stingy with their holiday specials these past few years. It’s a challenge to find anything Christmas-sy airing on Christmas Day unless you wanna watch the 24 hour A Christmas Story marathon. Gotta make room for all those reality TV shows somewhere, I guess.
