Rarity has shown she actually has rather impressive strength in terms of her magical skills. Multiple object manipulation and when she had her past swapped with rainbow dash, she showed her magic can manipulate enough weather effects to cause utter chaos through ponyville.
 
Now a past where she used it in an offensive manner instead of just fashion? I shudder to think.

Hmm…I don’t know still, I see where you’re coming from though…I guess a gun could come in handy as a mage, still bothers me as to why you would need it…but we all cannot be accomplished mages now can we. :/

Point about maximizing potential, though there’s only so much time in the day for peeps to do so while earning (or pilfering) their keep. Pirates with the potential might shoot for a couple reliable hit-and-run enabling tricks along your force blast/boulder lines.

True, not everyone is a Gandalf or Elminster, but if you know magic wouldn’t want to learn to maximize it’s effect? If I could do magic I would want to learn as much as I can and try to get my spells to be as powerful as possible. Yeah, not all mages would want to do that…but at least some destruction magic would be good to have.
 
And magic doesn’t have to be a fireball or something flashy, a simple force bolt or earth strike is enough. One is just manipulation of force (almost like telekinisis, just without the catalyst aka object)and the other is just a rock and brown. Just sink the ship…one small breach in the hull is enough, doesn’t have to be big…but now I’m thinking WAY into this, so might be best to stop for now.

To be fair, for all we know this little display’s gonna (a) totally drain Squiggletail’s mojo pool or (b) burn out whichever concealed super-trinket may be enabling it. As for firearms, (1) cover & surprise are still factors that a lightshow compromises and (2) not everypone’s a magic narwhal. But yeah, there ought be a visible price paid if this is half the finisher it looks.

I really have to raise an eyebrow over how much Rarity is reacting to having her boot ruined, yet barely had a reaction to an innocent man who had nothing to do with this whole altercation getting brained in the crossfire.

…Why even have a gun at this point if you have magic? I don’t know, magic just seems infinitely superior…LEARN SOME AOE, DAMMIT! I mean…even if you run out of energy, isn’t there a drink for that? I would imagine it would be quite important considering you’re living in a world with MAGIC. Just blow them up…it also kinda eliminates the chances of you getting shot…and if you are gonna do that now, why didn’t you do that earlier?
 
Also you have a blinding flash spell, use it then shoot them (cause you have a gun as well) while they are stunned…

I know right. She better have a dozen alicorn amulets in her pocket or something because this doesn’t really feel like Rarity anymore but instead someone’s OP unicorn OC.

Career piracy seems incentive enough for Capt. Squiggletail & Co. to amp up & repurpose previously innocuous tricks…Kamehamarehas(C), on the other horn, seem ripe for a little post-splody exposition.

Okay so now we have seen Rarity use that wing spell without any effort and while casting light is a regular thing for apparently all unicorns certainly it’s not going to work as magical flashbang.  
I really really do hope that we get an explanation why Rarity suddenly is so magically powerful. (unless it was already explained and I just missed it) Even if it is just a fan created world, it would still be nice to explain things when characters are shown to be vastly different than in the show.

This sorta reminds me of Black Lagoon.
