Pretty much. Reminds me of back when Zelda-fans were bashing Windwaker’s art/graphic style (yet it ironically won “best graphics of 2003” in Nintendo Power magazine’s vote-in awards) calling it “Cel-da,” “kiddy,” ect…  
Then when “Twilight Princess” was announced some started saying it looked to “Lord of the Rings”-like, to gritty, and such…
 
In fact, funny story, a friend of mine refused to play “Windwaker” for years, just ‘cause she didn’t like the graphic style. (Yet didn’t mind cartoonier games like Mario & such…) Then when she finally played it, she loved it, and even started liking the graphic style, and regretted not playing it years ago.

Its kinda funny how a lot of people didn’t like those Mario titles because it was vastly different from the usual somewhat-story and plot. Now, these days, a lot of folks want the Mario games to be more engaging. Talk about irony.

Yeah, I always like SMB2 & “Sunshine.” Never got why some like to bash those 2 games.
 
And yeah, don’t forget the Super Leaf even appeared in Mario Kart, and SSB. I hope the full-bodied tanooki suit is in to, as well as the cape perhaps, and other items.
 
Kuribo’s/Goomba’s Shoe was one of the rarest items in SMB3 (appearing in one level) would be cool to able to use it, as well.

Well I’m not surprise that the Super Leaf is in the game. Its been a recurring power-up since its return in 3D Land. The only known power-ups that have made a recent return were both the Frog Suit and Goomba’s Shoe in Paper Mario: Sticker Star (a disappointing game, really don’t want to talk about it).
 
Too be honest, I’m not expecting the developers to go as far to give each characters their respective abilities, just simply a add-on and be playable for fun.
 
I always considered SMB2 to be a true sequal to SMB1, sense The Lost Levels was more of an extension pack with the same plot, but more difficult. As a matter of fact, there are a small few Mario games with different stories that are more engaging to play. Like Super Mario Sunshine, perfect example. Love that game.

They showed “raccoon” Mario flying through a level on one clip of this video. So it seems like they have that power-up. (And probably the cape to. Wonder if the items can be used in the other graphic styles to.)  
I agree, I’d love to see the other items like the Hammer suit, tanooki suit, and penguin suit in, as well. Yoshi would be nice, as well.
 
I suppose it would be cool to play as the other characters to, and perhaps with their abilities.  
In fact, I wouldn’t mind them having SMB2/SMUSA graphics, and gameplay elements to.  
(Yeah, yeah, I know it wasn’t a “true” Mario game originally, I don’t care it was a fun game. Besides even Miyamoto said he likes the game, and he and the rest of the “Mario Team” made “Dream Factory: Doki Doki Panic” originally the game it was based off of, as well.)
 
“SMB: Lost Levels” graphics would be nice to, especially for “harder” levels.

Wait, the game is going to feature both SMB3 AND SMW??? I really, REALLY hope Nintendo includes the power-ups from each game. I have been dieing to see the return of the mighty Hammer Suit! The Fire Flower is my favorite, but going all ‘hammer time’ on the enemies just kicks ass.
 
Even though I know its asking too much, but I was hoping (and it will probably never happen) that the developers will allow you to switch roles of the characters and have them playable. Ex: You’ll have a custom build level with Princess Peach and she’s set to rescue Luigi from Bowser. Have the main four (Mario, Luigi, Toad, and Peach) custom build to your liking, very similar to “Warioware D.I.Y”.

Yep, I remember those. Now we can ALL do it without being a professional game-hacker. :P  
They also confirmed that there will be an online sharing system for the game to, so you can share, and download custom levels.
 
I remember as a kid when I was making custom-levels in “Excitebike,” I used to wonder, “Why don’t they do this with Mario?” (Surprisingly, Excitebike was also a Miyamoto game.) Sure took them a long time, but it was worth it, and should be fun/easy to do with the “Game Pad” screen functioning like a tablet.
 
A recent official video of it also shows it’s going to offer other alternate graphic styles including SMB3, and SMWorld styles. (And Blooper squids get new SMW-style sprites, and such to. They weren’t in that game originally.)  
Hope they offer “Doom Ship” levels. ;)  
I kinda hope there will be “unlockable” things in the game to.

I’ve been waiting for Nintendo to do this for a long time now. Have you seen those old hack videos base on New Super Mario Bros. Wii level stages on YouTube?
