I was wondering what the heck the artist was smoking until I saw the Rankin-Bass reference mentioned in the description. It really is a good rendition of that style. Though I’m still wondering why Spike has spots.
At least going by Amy’s twitter, this cover is off-putting for many, but likely because they don’t recognize the reference. In 2d, it is definitely uncanny valley-appearing, but spot on for those that know.

Well #26 was released just before Christmas, but this is the first time I’ve been able to find a good digital image of the HT variant cover. :)
