I’m not an expert, but that seems biologically improbable.
Though I will gladly grant that there are a number of perfectly valid non-shippy reasons for one to borrow clothes from the other. Mostly I was having a bit of fun. I know damn well that the chances of any ship going anywhere on this show are pretty remote.
I think the last point you suggested is most plausible. Unless a pony is specifically drawn to a different size, they are all the same size.
Well, the other explanations I could think of would be “Applejack steals things”, “Rarity has asked/forced Applejack to wear her clothes for some reason”, or “everypony really is the exact same size”.
After spending a few minutes trying to decide how to respond to your comment, I’ve finally decided to rationalize that it is because they are more than just friends. :p
Rarity was dressed like a hick because she was having a mental breakdown. No point arguing about that.
Applejack, on the other hoof, specifically chose not just to wear fancy clothes, but to wear Rarity’s clothes. Really, how much effort does it take to read things into that? At the absolute minimum, this means Appplejack knows Rarity’s clothes will fit her. That, in turn, begs the question of how she knows.
AJ: “Ah’m wearing fancy clothes because ah love you!”
Rarity: “and I’m wearing country because I love you, darling!”
About the mud or about Rarity’s hands on her chest? ;)
AJ: “What was that, sugarcube?”
R: “I said… well… I LOVE BEIN’ COVERED IN MUD!”
