I could only assume model limitations.
Oh hello /k/
Sorry, I know you didn’t say anything about the AK, it’s just a pet peeve of mine that so many extol it as a great rifle when really it’s somewhat crappy. I’m especially peeved about this recently because my roommate, who is waaayy into guns, thinks the AK is the best ever >.<
Yes, it has more stopping power, but that’s because the rounds are heavier (more weight to carrying equal amounts of ammo) and give way more recoil which makes using the rifle less accurate. Furthermore, it means when it hits armor, all of its power goes into the armor rather than punching through it (like a smaller 5.56mm round does). So more punch, but a lot less armor penetration (a 7mm has roughly half the energy per surface area as a 5.56, and only about 70% of the pressure on tip on target).
All of this to say nothing of the fact that the M4 and M16 are both far, far more accurate, have much better weight distribution (far superior handling), and are made of far superior materials (modern ones, anyhow: not saying anything of the Vietnam-era ones).
MP5 is nice and compact, but vests can stop pistol rounds, so it’s also a bit scary ‘cause you can knock the other guy over, but they still might get back up.
M4/M16 are best rifles, IMO. In fact, they’re so accurate that you can put a scope on’em and use them for intermediate-range sniper rifles (DMR - in-between assault rifle and sniper rifle ranges). This, and their not-so-easy upkeep makes them ideal for better-trained soldiers, which is why the U.S. uses them.
AK’s are great for cheap, “disposable” soldier warfighting doctrines, which is why they’re so popular all around the 3rd world and Russia. But they’re not nearly as accurate and don’t penetrate armor nearly as well (which is also non-issue if you’re not going against soldiers who wear plate, flak jacket, kevlar, etc. like most 3rd world soldiers).
Well, I was only talking about something I could feasibly carry. But if I really wanted to make the other side lay down and shut up for good, I’d go a bit bigger. Like a Gatling gun with magically bottomless ammo. :P
I’ve always preferred something that helps get the message of “Stay down if you don’t want to die” across like an MG3 or an AA-12.
(Cept for that darn CheyTac. lol)
What no love for the Remington MSR?
Pff. Commie. M200 for range, M80 for awesome.
