It’s a matter of perspective. They’re very good at hitting what they target. But they’re very bad at targeting the right thing. All mortals look the same to elves, so they can’t tell if they’re going to hit the guy they want to hit or a bunch of innocent ponies until it’s too late.
I find it difficult to see how elves have bad aim. If anything, they’d have some rather accurate shots.
