I’m aware, i wrote a fluttermac fic long before filli vanilli xD
And yeah, im not justifying their existence, ships exist because people just like the idea more often than not. I don’t try to justify my ships, it’s just what i like. (Or as a writer, i like the possibilities a pairing can bring. Such as fluttermac, two very quiet ponies falling in love? That opens a very broad spectrum of possibilities for cute plot lines.)

Both Dislestia and Fluttermac were a thing since S1 and S2. Flower scene and Filli Vanilli were just a fuel. But it doesn’t change the fact that these ships have less interactions than bg ponies. Well fluttermac at least had a line of dialogue.
Dislestia was a thing before the flower thing. That was just fuel for it.

Well… in fluttermac’s case i guess. There’s really nothing in the show that influences it besides the fact that they are both shy and quiet.
Dislestia i can understand because of the flowers moment at the end of season 4, as well as the whole order and chaos romance theme…
Ships start for small reasons, we all know this.
