You can see Canterlot in the center, Cloudsdale to the upper left of that, and the Crystal palace at the very top, so we’re seeing this map in the same orientation.

It could be argued that the map tied to their cms let Starlight exploit that for her time spell, and that power was taken when the spell disappeared. However, I hope it actually still is there, as a possible plot device for exploring more

If the crack that is to the left of the cacti area is Ghastly Gorge, then yes, the cacti area is the north part of the badlands.
Looks like they’re either planing ahead for the next few seasons or we’ll see a lot more episodes outside of Ponyville this season. Also, could the large valley with the cacti be the badlands? Sure the hills would be on the wrong side, but it pretty much matches the location on the other map.

Imagine if they incorporate those One Piece references on the show.
I reasonably confident that it will be… I think Twilights castle/tower/thing will turn out to be some kind of TARDIS.
The Pirate arc did establish there is a beach setting, which is likely what is under Horseshoe Bay; I’d equate that to the Carolinas and Florida of Equestria.
Also note the rainforest east of the skullmountain, the hollow looking hills little to the north of it and the glacier in the far north-west.
The continent in the east also seems to have one mountain top with something resembling a crescent moon.
And giant ’shrooms.
