My headcanon is that there are two kinds of alicorns: lesser and greater. Greater alicorns are huge and have god-like powers (ability to move celestial bodies) where as their lesser brethen are smaller and more limited in their magical abilities.

Can't we all get along?
At the end of the day, no matter whether or not she’s a different race to Luna and Celestia, she isn’t ultimately one of them - she ages, they don’t. And it’s nothing to do with Royalty in general, as she’s a Princess (supposedly of the Crystal Kingdom) herself.

Because she had them when she was still a teenager, or whatever the equivalent is for an Alicorn.
 
And don’t tell me that she was somehow able to maintain a spell like that for possibly decades without tiring from it while Twilight, oft considered to be an extremely talented and powerful unicorn tires from it after one use.
