“Heh, hope Im not too fast for ya!”
Working on establishing my new style for drawing anthro art. I figured Id start with my favorite pony: Rainbow Dash. Fun trivia: despite her being my favorite, this is only the 2nd time Ive ever drawn her (not counting as a crayon drawing in the ONAS summary). Strange, huh?
Anyway, I decided that for this one Id incorporate shading into it, and also I gave up on drawing hands (I suck at that) and instead use hooves for their limbs. It also marks the first time Ive drawn wings from the back. In future drawings I will also draw them with more pony-like legs and hooves. Hope you like it!

Thanks for the advice. I will take all of that into consideration. :)
Sadly, I’m not too much more of an artist than you are, so my advice is rather limited. Though I can offer this: When it comes to drawing hands, make copious use of your references. Especially the ones on the ends of your arms! If you’re drawing a hand, and something doesn’t look right, just look at your own hand and compare. If you’re not sure how to draw a certain hand pose, make that same pose with your own hand. Take pictures to help yourself out, even.
Also, a more general tip: if you’re using Photoshop, or some other image program that has a pen tool, learn how to use it immediately. For a long time, I wondered how I could make perfectly clean lines like how all the pros do it, without all those dirty jitters and squiggles. Then I discovered Photoshop’s Pen Tool. Presto! Perfect lines every time! ^_ ^
This is a tough one. Drawing those complex arms would make it slightly harder… then again, I’ve never felt too good with drawing hands. Here’s the previous pic of Dashie I made, back in June of last year:
I personally don’t think I did too good with the hands, but you tell me. Any advice for drawing the hands?
Also, Luna as Dr. Insano? Hell yes! :D And now I’m really tempted to ship Insano with the Mane-iac. O_o
Hmm. Well, drawing the hooves would be infinitely easier. Though getting used to drawing the hands would help your artistic skills more in the long run. Though really, I say you should choose whichever path you find more aesthetically appealing.
As for your second question, yes! Well, sort of. The original picture comes from one of my favorite panels of Moonstuck, by the awesome Egophiliac. I liked it so much, that I eventually edited the picture to incorporate the text: >>81675
And after that, I decided to do a bit more editing for a full-on Woonsano: >>270423
Someone in one of the image comments mentioned using it as an avatar, and I thought “Well why not? That’d be fun!” And the rest is history.
Aw, thanks a ton! I could really use that–though at the same time I’m not sure whether it’s easier to draw humans with the ponylike arms, or just draw the hands like I’ve been neglecting to do. ^^;
Which would you say is easier?
…also, I just realized, is that a pony Dr. Insano as your icon?
Y’know, when it comes to arm/hoof anatomy, I think you would find this useful if you haven’t seen it already: >>802307
Well there IS the popular arm hooves tag. Plus, anyone who follows me knows I can’t draw hands worth crap.
Thanks! This is the first time I’ve actually DRAWN an anthro pic in awhile, though the hooves still don’t look right to me. Any tips?
