The canon question is just up to you but they’re definitely worth reading depending on which story arc you feel like reading. Heck, there’s also the upcoming Fiendship is Magic telling the background stories/origins of the villains (Sombra, Tirek, The Dazzlings, NMM and Queen Chrysalis)
The Friends Forever comics are also a recommendation as well since they usually pair two characters, likely or unlikely duo. (Ex: Trixie and RD, Discord and CMC, Granny Smith and The Flim Flam bros ) The comics are like desserts of the series.
You have to understand that just because they aren’t canon, doesn’t mean that they aren’t good or fun to read. Who cares if they follow the show to a T or not. They’re just fun little side stories. Don’t get caught up in all the brony bitching about how it’s not how they wanted because it’s not 100% with the show.
