Spike is a lvl 30 Butler/Janitor, this is one of his basic ‘at will’ abilities.
I was about to. Spike’s powers are many, various, and occasionally subtle.
True. She adopted him when she cracked the egg in The Cutie Mark Chronicles and raised him ever since. It’s unclear whether her parents had anything to do with it, but he’s always been there for her, and vice versa. They were friends well before they met the rest of the cast.

You can be someone’s assistant and related to them too, whether by blood or adoption.
Twilight makes it clear at the end of this episode just how important Spike is to her:
‘No-one could ever replace you, Spike’.
Spike and Twilight never outright refer to each other as family, but they always behave as family.

That aside, they practically ARE a family. Twilight is simply blind sometimes. Being an assistant is clearly not as satisfaying as having a family. But maybe her parents are racists, at least to the point where they wouldn’t adopt Spike?
