Rarity is running a successful chain of fashion outlets, as well as supplying pop diva’s with custom costumes.
Well… There’s the fact that she had to raise money to pay for Granny Smith’s hip operation… And he fact that it was implied that a disruption in their cider sales would cause them to lose the farm, suggesting heavy mortgage payments. These are not thing indicative of wealth. Rarity, on the other hand has purchased and opened two new shops. Draw your own conclusions.
Sure, Rarity often dresses elegantly, but she makes all those dresses herself. The gems she adorns those dresses with seem to be dirt-common in Equestria, to the point where a dragon can make a regular meal out of them. At no point does Rarity display any other indication of being rich.
Conversely, there’s really no reason to assume Applejack is poor. Neither she nor anyone in her family seems to really be struggling financially. Additionally, it should be noted that the Apple family could be fairly wealthy for all we know, and that would not be apparent since flaunting their money is just not in their character. On the opposite side, if Rarity were rich, that would become apparent very quickly due to her love for the finer things in life. As it is, she lives comfortably, but no more than that.
you have all my thanks , for educating that prick who wrote that bull crap.(master race douche-bags i swear..)
….what have you been smoking to believe in that..
Fun … for you.
CIA’s flightplan is going so badly that if for a short period of time he’s not in charge here the whole operation crashes with no survivors and there goes his house too. Small guy has to live in his plane. Not to mention that despite wanting a feather in his cap, even the Masketta Man doesn’t know who CIA is. He has to constantly call it in to even file his flightplans and often has to have his men help him or he doesn’t get them onboard. CIA also knows that one failed interrogation means the end of his career and because of that freaks out if a hired gun has a lot of loyalty. He doesn’t even have time for Dr. Pavel and eventually Pavel even says nothing.
And when one of the mercenaries tries to grab his prize, what was CIA’s first question? That’s right. If I take that off, would you die? Even more questions and getting caught wasn’t even part of his plan.
Meanwhile Bane can afford to leave Juan Ovus in the Wreckage Brother. CIA as the agent of generosity can’t even bring friends.
We must also remember CIA’s lack of a masterplan. Or even if he has some kind of masterplan, he’s not quite bright. Remember when he shot a man before throwing him out of a plane? Fucking lol. Even if a person doesn’t fly so good, they should know how gravity works and we know that CIA has stayed on his aircraft many times.
It doesn’t help that CIA is just a lowly small guy and Bane is part of the glorious big guy master race and thus Bane is greatly superior. CIA is quite expendable and pretty much nothing would change if he disappeared. Someone could easily replace him. Smee seems to know more about why Bane wears the mask than CIA and could probably do the flightplan stuff while still getting the 411 on Bane.
lol this guy can’t be serious. I do know that stupid people exists but this one must be just pretending to be stupid.
This might be fun however so allow me to respond with something equally dumb.
Ahem..
Rarity’s business is going so badly that if for a short period of time she’s not doing dresses the whole store had to have its windows boarded shut and there goes her house too. Poor girl has to live above her store. Not to mention that despite wanting to be popular, even the ponies in her own home town don’t know who Rarity is. She has to constantly work to even cover the expenses she has and often has to have her friends help her or she goes out of business. Rarity also knows that one failed deal means the end of her career and because of that freaks out if things don’t go as planned. She doesn’t even have time for her little sister and eventually Sweetie Belle even says she wants Applejack to be her big sister instead of Rarity.
And when the parasprites attacked, what was Raritys first concern? That’s right. The dresses and fabrics she had. Even more losses and then she has to work even harder hoping not to got bankrupt.
Meanwhile Applejack can afford to donate the possible victory money from a rodeo tournament to fix the town hall. Rarity as the element of generosity can’t afford that.
We must also remember Rarity’s lack of education. Or even if she has some kind of education, she’s not quite bright. Remember when she tried to ride a plow and wondered why it didn’t move? Fucking lol. Even if person has never been to a farm they should know how a plow works and we know that Rarity has been on Apple farm many times.
It doesn’t help that Rarity is just a lowly dirty mudpony and Applejack is part of the glorious earth pony master race and thus AJ is greatly superior. Rarity is quite expendable and pretty much nothing would change if she disappeared. Someone could easily replace her. Fluttershy seems to know more about dresses than Rarity and could probably do the dress stuff while still taking care of the animals.
Hey this is actually quite fun. I can now see why you post bs here. I should try this more often.
I’m going to attribute your belief that running a farm involves considerable cash expenses to your own lack of education.
During the Great Depression, to take an example, the rural communities just dropped money and went back to bartering. The only thing that screwed them, the only necessary cash expense a farm has, is land tax.
The writers don’t care. They thought it made AJ’s refusal sound more sympathetic, so they threw in that line. When the Apple family are being conned out of money or when AJ randomly decides to travel across the country, then she will be flush with cash. The next time someone decides to write an episode about Ponyville holding a bake sale to save their community center, Twilight will forget that she is a princess, and everyone else will be broke, because they need to be broke otherwise there is no bake sale and no episode. Also Ponyville will have a community center.
“AJ”
“lack of education”
“forgetting AJ handles the bits at her food stand”
“forgetting cooking/catering involves measurements, numbers and accounting”
“forgetting AJ organizes and runs Sweet Apple Acres in a Twilight fashion”
Yeeeahh I’m gonna chalk up AJ’s apparent “lack of education and math knowledge” to AKR interpretation of southern folks. Not saying the girl can’t write, but them stereotypes.
Keep in mind though, that for every supposition and contrivance to show that she is not poor, there are many more in the show that shows how she is supposed to be poor.
The constant need for outside help to keep the farm going, the long list of stuff they need more money for, reliance on friends and family for labour instead of hiring professional assistance, how AJ left to work on a different farm to raise money for the town hall instead of working her own farm harder, the need to constantly rebuild barns. The list goes on.
The logical explanation is that the apple clan has mortgaged Sweet Apple Acres to help pay the (most likely) considerable running expenses of running a farm and needed the proceeds from the Cider sale to cover their next down payment.
This would suggest that the farm is in economic trouble, and thus, that the apples are not rich.
Its almost like the farm is a failing business or something….
All the same, I think we are loosing sight of what OP’s pic is trying to say. Its not just that Rarity, being a member of the unicorn master race and thus inherently superior to mudponies like AJ, but rather, that Rarity seems to be making a highly successful business out of selling a product that should have little if any demand, while AJ is trying to sell a product everyone wants and even has a monopoly on it in ponyville, and is still only just scraping by.
Personally I blame AJ’s lack of education, seeing as she seems to regard math as some kind of insult. A not inconsiderable handicap in anyone trying to run a business, like a farm.
Yeah, but you’re reasons are unfortunately overturned by that canon statement. AJ’s farm is, apparently(or at least, at that time) in financial turmoil. If a seasonal product doesn’t do very well, they lose the farm(SOMEHOW).
Also, as AJ is a classic trope of farmer/cowgirl, they are rarely rich or even well off. Usually they are depicted as being rich in values, but not in money.
No amount of suppositions or apparent reasons can defunct that statement AJ made with her family :p
All that can are clear evidence of the contrary later on in the show or an official statement by a writer/producer/the like.
Like I said, “every character will have exactly as much money or as much need for money as the plot requires because this is a kid’s show and the writers have deliberately decided not to make economic class an issue.”
And that episode was the perfect example. No part of it makes any economic sense. A farm is not a business. There is no reason that Sweet Apple Acres should be mortgaged or rented, so there is no way not having money could make them lose it. And if the farm were rented or mortgaged, then the Apple Family doesn’t actually own it, so they can’t just hand it over to someone else as the result of a bet. Even if they could, they’d be turning over the equivalent of a sharecropper’s contract (just a hair above serfdom) which would be a horrible deal no sane person would accept.
Well, actually, there’s evidence that AJ’s farm is not doing well, economically. In Super Speedy Cider Squeezy 6000, dialogue suggests that a reduction of profits from cider alone by 25% would cause them to immediatelly default on the farm.
Certainly the last part could have been just a joke, stupidness or wanting to be an asshole. All options are quite possible.
I really don’t see too many fair points though.
Raw material for clothes are different kinds of fabrics which don’t seem to be so expensive. If he meant gems, they are still really common in the land of Equestria and not really valuable expecially when compared to our world. Rarity seems to sell clothes to everyone and not just high society. And taking advantage of free labour? What? Like accepting help from her friends? Saying Rarity is taking advantage of them makes her sound mean.
Applejack being stubborn and not accepting help was a theme of one episode but she learned her lessong and it the very next Applejack episode we even see her receiving help from her friends not having any stubborn moments.
A farm of course has more buildings and tools. Not really sure what this has to do with anything. Even when taking care of them, it’s not a huge money hole if that’s what implemented. The barn certainly seems to get destroyed often and seems like a running gag already. Of course, once more it should be mentioned that the writers most likely didn’t sit down to think how the economy works in the show and accurate income and expenses of everycharacter.
I seem to write quite a lot again. Maybe next time I just call bullshit and explain myself only when or if someone asks me to explain.
@Background Pony #0618
This! This so damn much!
The “evidence” most people use of AJ’s poverty is people being deliberately dense. She was trying to convince Twilight to give her the ticket, so she exaggerated her situation (the same way Dash, Rarity and Pinkie did, or do you honestly believe the Gala “needed” Pinkie just because she said it). Granny Smith has been shown break dancing and leaping about since then, and the Apple family barn(s?) have been destroyed and rebuilt over and over again.
Rarity makes dresses and stuff. I have no idea. Maybe she rents the boutique, or built it with magic.
Anyway, the real answer is “every character will have exactly as much money or as much need for money as the plot requires because this is a kid’s show and the writers have deliberately decided not to make economic class an issue.”
Dude, chill out. The last line was a joke, but the rest are kinda fair points :p
