Yes.
I’m glad I’m not the only one.
After watching S5E1 I had gone on Youtube and ran into a video of Asuka fighting those eva-things from TEOE, and then I saw that spear…
@Dashu
All it takes is a single person, somewhere, thinking X references Y and making an image, and that’s all it takes. It’s pretty silly if you think that’s then disseminated through the hivemind to be our users’ default idea.
Man, you guys are just as bad as TV Tropes. Not everything that is similar is a “shout-out”. And with supposed references to animes, I’m especially skeptical. Unless there is official confirmation, I don’t see a reason to believe that this was intentional.
Watched this episode 7 fucking times including when it first aired and still cannot fucking believe the Lance of Longinus is in this. Best homage ever, un-fucking-believeable.
It makes sense. The Lance of Longinus can pierce AT-Fields, a physical representation of one’s soul and innate desire to be different. The Staff of Sameness can remove Cutie Marks, a symbol of a pony’s innate uniqueness.
Why do I get the feeling that something like this will happen in the finale of season 5? Where all Ponies lose their cutie marks. And Twilight has to make the ultimate decision.
@Ferrotter
Pronounced (lon-jie-nus), he is that ancient Roman soldier who stabbed the crucified Jesus and made him gush out blood and water.
Oh, I know. There was also Gaius Cassius Longinus, brother-in-law of Brutus and one of the chief instigators of the assassination of Julius Caesar; Lucius Cassius Longinus, brother-in-law of Caligula Caesar (also the brother of Gaius Cassius Longinus); Lucius Cassius Longinus Ravilla, the father of those previous two brothers Longini; Longinus the Greek philosopher who wrote “On the Sublime” (who’s also sometimes called Pseudolonginus because his real name isn’t known); Cassius Longinus, another Greek philosopher and contemporary of Pseudolonginus; Flavius Longinus, brother of Emperor Zeno; at least one Longinus, Roman governor of Britain; Gaius Cassius Longinus Varus, a general defeated by Spartacus, and later ally of Cicero; and others of lesser note. It seems to have been a pretty common name in Ancient Rome. That’s probably why the Roman Centurion, whose name was not actually mentioned in the Bible, wound up being mythologized as having the name Longinus. And why the philosopher, whose actual name is not really known for sure, is usually known as Longinus now. There’s also Longinus Fernandes, a modern-day choreographer.
But all that doesn’t change my point. It still sounds like it should be a dirty word.

it did also break the vault open too like shattering an AT Field

@Ponymous
Really too good for the PSP?? lol Not from what I saw of it, But whatever… All I know about the Series is that there are likely as not dozens of Tittles of Super Robot Wars about… Apparently for as many Systems too it seems…
@Ichijoe
the one in the video is actually called Dai San Ji Super Robot Wars Z Jigoku-hen and they were recreating the scene from Neon Genesis Evangelion 3.33 You Can (NOT) Redo, and that’s not for the PSP, quality is too nice for the PSP, it’s the VITA and PS3

Another name for it is the Spear of Destiny, and it’s used to remove cutie marks, which represent the pony’s destiny.
It’s almost definitely a deliberate reference.

This show has been known to slip in references that aren’t very…child-friendly, so we got a little excited.
That ending creeps me out to this day…
I mean, we’ve already had the “Congratulation!” ending in S3.
Yeah…
Red explosion, green explosion or blue explosion?
…sorry

It’s not just for PSP. The series started on the SNES (or rather, the SFC).
This game in particular appears to be Super Robot Wars Alpha 3 for the Playstation 2.
The Game is called Super Robor Wars… For the S0NY PSP
As to which Version though?! ¯\0_o/¯
And, no there is no officially translated Version that I know of as like most of the really good PSP Games got left behind in Japan / Asia.
what is this game and is there a translation?
