that is why they can’t admit to looking at fan stuff, because they can claim what you said. even if it’s really really reeeeeeeally coincidental. that’s how copyright hurts businesses, because it forces them to hide their inspiration, or to refuse to be inspired at all.
 
doesn’t matter if anyone “could” have thought it up. if there’s a law saying ideas can be stolen, then great minds thinking alike are breaking it. but they can ignore breaking the law, with a good enough alibi, because this law depends on intents not acts. (and that’s also terrible.)
 
it’s the legal equivalent of saying you never planned on murdering someone, or you do not recall embezzling that bank, except it’s for having cool ideas instead of killing people or ripping off investors.

I think that thanks to the vast amount of fan art and ideas bronies have generated by now, you’d be able to find one thing that can be linked to a previous fan work in each episode.

Yeah, the show really needs more random stuff impaled in horns. :D
