And even then, if it didn’t belong to Twi then it was to the whole town, and it’s not taken away from the town as the castle was said to be open to everyone of the town.

Technically, Twilight didn’t live in or own the library to begin with (Remember, she grew up in Canterlot.). She only moved into the library after Celestia sent her to Ponyville to monitor the Summer Sun Celebration.

And I don’t think the library count’s as belonging to the town when it’s also a home.  
So basically you have a problem with it that is not there.

The biggest problem I have with the original ending is that I don’t think anypony asked permission to dig up the library remains-essentially, the Mane 5 are thieves.
 
That, and the Mane 5 acting totally OOC and filling up the castle with their shit (Metaphorically, of course ;P), instead of just simply asking Twilight what makes her feel at home.

So I’ll just end on my closing statement as well. Of course mementos are an excellent touch on a home, I never said otherwise. And honestly setting up the old roots as a chandelier are a good step, but so would of been the portrait. A memento to her old home, a memento to their unified friendship, those alone would of at least been great steps if they intended to like the castle.
 
The fact they got rid of the portrait in the fashion that they did is suspect enough, but the memory crystals being the ‘solution’ is downright odd for an acceptance episode, don’t you think? Memory usually is the “path” to a solution, like after recollection, an item or a few items are brought up that make the place feel like home. Bu in contrast, in fiction, how many characters with terrible fates and terrible pasts look at tapes, ‘holo-vids’ or ‘memory crystals’ of nice events in their past to mentally cope? Tons of characters.
 
This was something down the middle. Twilight doesn’t have a terrible past, but she might have a terrible fate. Twilight admitted the problem with the castle was hard to describe, and its obvious to most that a cold interior design is not enough to force a person into a week-long, withdrawn state. But certain emotions and realizations that come with it could do it.
 
The other 5 mostly do not love the castle. TWILIGHT does not love the castle. Twilight thought she would love any direction Celestia guided her towards, which is currently being a princess inside a cold castle. But for once, she doesn’t love it. Do you have any idea how serious that is for Twilight? The concept of doubt in Celestia? Its not something she can process yet, so she would of done EXACTLY what she did at the beginning of the episode. Shut things out, go on full denial mode. And when they got her out of her funk, while trying not to think about her issues, she subconsciously now wanted to try new things she never considered before, like a new, anime hairstyle. Its subtle but extremely simple psychology.
 
So what were the memory crystals for, and why were they a good present? Like I said before, they weren’t for making it feel like home, they weren’t welcoming mementos: Twilight does not love the castle itself anymore then before, but she doesn’t have a past filled with misery either. Her friends instinctively knew that the situation was uncomfortable for Twi and it wasn’t going to just be fixed, so the crystals were there to remind her her friends will be there for her, in past and in present With that, she can deal with it for now.

Even hear of a memento? It’s an item you keep to remind you of something important to you even if you can remember it without the item or the person it’s from.  
If you think having one means there is something wrong with where you are then you need to get out of the house and meat more people in real life, people even keep out picture of friends and family they see on a regular bases in there home.  
To dismiss the memory crystal like that shows you really don’t get the propose of them, as as memento.

Yes, she shut down emotionally and ignored her friends words objections for a whole week…just cause her home wasn’t comfortable yet, and no underlying problems at all would have arisen at all from living in an established cold, lifeless princess castle with nothing to do but let her current life situation sink in…nothing emotionally stopping her from refurbishing the castle just a little herself…

A portrait says ‘welcome home’, memory crystals means ‘reminds me of the good times’, which she APPARENTLY can’t normally feel in that cold castle. That has absolutely 0% to do with accepting it as a warm home, that’s a safety measure for her feelings at best

No the pointwas that they were trying to make the place feel like a home, that home is more than just the place you live in but the memorizes and people as well, the castle didn’t feel like a home and that is why Twi didn’tdidn’t want to be there.

The POINT of the episode was that the castle was still cold and empty, and they knew they couldn’t treat it like a home so they threw that portrait away. The one that would give a ‘home sweet home’ vibe. And the first additions they immediately realized were stupid because they were at a loss to make this castle feel anything like a home.
 
Instead, besides some small additions, their solutions were memories of the PAST put into crystal ornaments to keep her cozy in there. The past.
 
The episode theme was about coping, not adjusting or acceptance. Twilight simply shutdown emotionally at the beginning of the episode because she was getting doubt and clarity of her life from looking at the cold castle halls. It wouldn’t of caused Twilight that big a deal if it was a simple matter of refurbishing.

Personally, I’m still not a fan of the cascrystreetletal, but I do like what they did in this episode and hope to see the rest of the rooms they decorated at some point this season. At least it has more personality than it did before, and that’s a good thing.

No matter how they decorate it, the castle will still feel cold and empty as long as she’s the only one living there. It’s way too freakin’ big for one pony or even six. She needs guards, butlers, advisors: a full-time staff to entertain guests, run the library, and hold down the fort while she’s off doing missions for the map.

I sorta doubt that’s the entire root system of the former Golden Oaks Library, though admittedly what’s up there is probably 500 pounds anyway. And if that’s not the entire root system, you have to factor in that they had to break off a part that would work as the chandelier for this room, which, if anything, is more impressive than getting the entire stump.
