She sent a bell soaring into the air when she kicked it, she stopped a runaway carriage by herself, her EQG form was clearly stronger than 2 guys when she was cleaning up the gym. When Rarity can barely move a plough(and she has a few notable feats of strength herself, surprisingly), AJ moves it with no problem. She effortlessly pulled the top half of a treed into Twilight’s house. These are just off the top of my head, I know there’s plenty more, and I haven’t even gone into the comics or novels.
 
Fan notions are often borne from things the show has given us. She is depicted as the strongest, and likely, heaviest of the Mane 6 because she has the most physically intensive job, which leads to muscle development. Now, as you well now, most ponies look nearly identical, but if they didn’t, AJ would almost certainly be physically larger.

There really is no reason for Rarity not to be able to life AJ unless her wings are that weak.

Tired of this fan notion. Her rear legs are “strong” from applebucking-which AJ admits there’s a trick to than just hitting-, plus she’s pretty much a horse so she would be good at kicking. The show admits that Mac is the strong one in the family and if Dash can compete with AJ physically–and AJ with Dash with speed–than AJ’s body structure isn’t all that different from Dash’s. AJ being heavy is a poor excuse.

Truth in biology. I never thought of that, but you’re absolutely right. AJ is very strong and (by extension) rather muscle-bound.
