I wasn’t trying to paint broad strokes. There were times I didn’t tear up when I had very close friends/acquaintances die either. I was only applying this to AJ considering having lost her parents at a young age, which if you disagree, that’s fine.

No she doesn’t. Some people don’t all out cry when they’re grieving, and that doesn’t mean that they’re dealing with it any less effectively than people who do. I didn’t shed a tear when my grandparents and aunt died, and I got past my grief just as well as everyone I knew who did. It just depends on the person.

Also, now this raises a bigger question, how did they die if it affected them so bad that years later there’s still have no pictures displayed?

It’s frighteningly likely that AJ has a severe case of long-term PTSD.
 
Think about it. AJ is really, really big on family. Her parents are heavily implied to be dead (which is more-or-less confirmed by staff). Yet there is not a single picture of Ma or Pa anywhere on Sweet Apple Acres. The only reason why that would be is because AJ, and perhaps some of the others, don’t want to be reminded of them.
 
If somepony presses the matter hard enough and tries to get AJ to talk, well, things will get ugly… but we’ll also see some angry crying. Or, more probably, volcanic anger with some tears mixed in.

She has never really sobbed and fully let it out, like the others have. She can shed tears and hold it in, but one day she’ll need to let it out.

You want to know the REAL reason? Her apple trees sleep every winter for the past whole time she has been alive. Yes shes a very caring pony but….she dealt with it before.
 
Also the death of her not allowed to be talked about mother and father.

 
The whole thing about Applejack not crying is a joke here because we know she has, and it’s more like it’s funny because she isn’t really fazed at all by how upset Dash is at all.

I get it. It’s just that seeing it on pictures made me realize that this episodes dialogue can be more then a throwaway gag.

If there’s water coming out of the eyes, there’s crying. Just because one type is more expressive doesn’t mean that the other isn’t crying.
