Look at how high the guy in the back puts the icicle. I don’t think we’ve seen the levitation spell range to extend this far.
Starlight Glimmer definitely did when she caught the Mane Six’ cutie marks. Twilight Sparkle did when she carried the Ursa Minor.

Wasn’t the town against using magic to clean up (or start up) winter? Or did they just do away with that stigma in due time?
I always had the impression that basic levitation gets a pass, since it’s not any different than using your enough deal to kick up a stink over.)
 
Why in Celestia would Starlight Glimmer do that? That was not her job! She is supposed to find and get rid of the Mane 6’s cutie mark in The Cutie Mark!

That was supposed to say: I always had the impression that basic levitation gets a pass, since it’s not any different than using your hooves. (The fact that it has longer range so you don’t need ladders is not a big enough deal to kick up a stink over, especially when the wrap-ups are so late so shortcuts probably keep creeping in.)

Given that every place we’ve seen that ISN’T inhabited by ponies has been a hellish wasteland and/or nightmarish jungle, I’m going with the theory that Equestria is set in a Death World and only the ponies’ constant efforts keep a portion of it habitable.
