I still consider myself to be very stupid.
Not the word I would have used now, but don’t worry, you’re in good company with this fandom. You are not alone with this.
Though, I admit it’s a bit unfair to say that in this case. Because from what I’ve seen so far, everyone else in the fandom seems to have understood it why Rainbow Dash wasn’t caught and that there is no continuity missing here.

And that’s exactly why I hate this episode, and I hate Applejack.
Well, Chrysalis also got ‘forever’ inprisoned in a magic castle. She escaped, but they were intending to keep her there for at least a thousand years…………….Twilight planned for each and every day of it……………..Twilight scares me sometimes.
Sombra also survived.
These were both in the comics and the characters did believe Sombra to be dead and Chrysalis, again, escaped.
Nightmare Moon - banished to the moon for 1000 years
Discord - petrified in stone, still aware of what was going on around him, for over 1000 years
Chrysalis - blasted (with her swarm) who knows how far from Canterlot
Sombra - dead
Tirek - imprisoned indefinitely in Tartarus
Oh yeah, they got off easy, didn’t they.
Perhaps it is because the show is aimed at young girls, who might relate to the CMC the most.
That only makes sense if the time and expense saved bringing winter to Ponyville made up for the time and expense lost repairing the weather factory. Possible, but unlikely.
That’s what I was thinking, perhaps over all it ended up being a net gain.
Well, Ponyville wasn’t damaged. More covered in a lot of snow and the other characters do remark how it kind of sped up the winter process. She did cause damage to the factory, but only minor located in one room. Easily fixed.
That’s one of the few things I dislike about this series: A lack of continuity. Or more specifically, it only has continuity whenever it is convenient.
She’s Princess Twilight’s thane. That’s how she got away with it.
