Okay what does your first sentence have anything to do with the aforementioned double standard? Girls can touch each other and noone bats an eye. Guys touch each other and the word “faggots” gets thrown out like cheap coupons.
As for the ship itself, I have a few reasons for not liking it. If I were to make a comparison it would be roughly for the same reasons I don’t like Sasusaku or Akuroku. I feel a close friendship can be more valuable than a relationship in some cases.
And I’m sorry but if I’m going to ship something then I need a little more substance than “they stand next to each other att so they’re dating.” Or “hot lesbo ponies fwwaaahhhh!!”
But if you choose to ship it, don’t let me get in your way. It is telling however, that Sweetie Drops was nowhere to be seen in the gala at all. Conversely, Lyra was seen chatting with a ranomd stallion and another mare. It does make you think…
I mean, it’s only “unfair” if you consider being in a relationship (or being presumed to be in one at least) an explicitly bad thing.
My main claim isn’t the smooshing though; It’s that a lot of the staff sees them as a couple.
Also, I never explicitly said I think they’re gay; One or both of them could be bi. I’m less interested in their sexual orientation than I am in their specific love for each other though. If you don’t ship it, that’s fine though. That’s the fun of shipping background characters.
Face-smooshing? That’s your claim? Buddy, girls have been known to straight up grope each other and are still considered straight by the viewing public. A double standard since males doing the same will be unfairly judged.

I didn’t know that about the guy couple thing interesting, I did see the part with lyra and bonbon though it’s what made me think lyrabon would make good exposure if it were to actually become a thing on the show. I usually don’t mind shipping if it’s not hurting anything unless it gets put into the show but lyrabon is the exception for me because there needs to be at least one gay couple in the show.
Fun fact - If you watch the Rainbow Rocks official commentary, one of the Hasbro execs refers to a couple of the human guys as “a couple” in passing. It’s during the upbeat happy part of “Welcome to the Show,” where Captain Planet and the nerdy kid have their arms around each other.
Also, Lyra Bonbon face-smooshing occured in the same movie.
I just want a gay couple to get some exposure on the show and lyra bon would be perfect. I hope this don’t make that unlikely.

It’s certainly possible. Or they might have other girlfriends. Or they could just be single altogether. Anything’s possible for a pair of background characters that the writers leave vague enough for fan-interpretation.
I choose to believe they’re a couple though. A lot of the show staff ships them too, for what that’s worth.
Or maybe in Equestria they are just frineds who have their own boyfriends?
As for the ponies, they’re probably the same. Personally, I see the gentleman Lyra’s chatting with as just a friend.
James is right though - They might not necessarily be lesbians. One or both of them certainly could be bisexual. Way I see it, they ain’t straight though.
