G1 Smooze was an awesome evil monster bent on total destruction for its own sake. Chaotic Evil goo, basically.
 
G4 Smooze, on the other hand, looks like a sad reject from the Amoeba Boys in the Powerpuff Girls. :P

That’s totally what I was expecting to happen before I saw what the Smooze had been changed into in the actual episode (which I actually like, even though I would have preferred that it be more G1 Dangerous).

G4 Bushwoolies? That would definitely work, their cuteness would go with the G4 ponies really well.
 
I’d definitely be in favour of a G4 Catrina too. Ooh, and possibly a few others, like Porcina (The Glass Princess), Bumble (End of Flutter Valley), Lavan (Quest of the Princess Ponies), and Zeb (Bright Lights), among others. :)
 
But this one…was seriously lame. I would’ve loved to see the Mane 6 having to deal with G1-type Smooze without the help of Flutter Ponies (Possibly calling the Breezies for help or something instead). :)

I want more G1 characters to show up in G4…the resurrection of Tirac in FiM was handled brilliantly, making him a majorly powerful villain, arguably more powerful even than his G1 self (though slightly less evil and rather more straight-up psychotic).
 
But this? What is this little green…blob…thing? That’s meant to be SMOOZE? I’m sorry, but G1 Smooze would be utterly offended by it’s G4 re-interpretation, and I feel quite rightly so…it’s turned from a very dangerous, evil thing that can’t be stopped easily or reasoned with, whose only purpose is to cover the world in more of itself and turn everything dank, dark and dreary, into…a cute little green d00d who gets invited to the Grand Gallopping Gala as Discord’s guest.
 
G4, I am disappoint. More G1 villains in the future would be lovely, but not like this. Make them SCARY, like they were before! ^^

If only they’d made Sombra into an actual character and the Smooze into a doomsday monster..

Well we thought it would play a bigger part when we learned about it being in this.  
That kind of happens when we get the animatic preview of only the scenes that it is in.

This ep caught everyone’s attention because of the Smooze’s appearance. But honestly, the Smooze turned out to be only a minor part of the ep, with fans getting more into Discord’s jealous ranting and Tree Hugger’s stoner humor instead.
