They could, but they would have to do it with an already established couple……..Like giving Cadance her own episode, writers! Come on! We get that the main six are the main characters, but other shows have set aside the occasional time slot to focus on other characters.
 
Though, if they did tackle romance, I’d actually be willing to see it. Probably not Discoshy, but something else. I mean, yeah the show hasn’t been very ‘kind’ to the idea of romance, either pushing it aside, saying you don’t need it, yadda yadda. Which is odd, since it has been shown love can be one of the strongest forces in the world, but the writers don’t want to go with a ship.
 
It’s not likely that they’ll ship the main six because that would take time and effort and…….well, not much of an excuse. Status quo is usually what keeps most romances from happening, but this show has broken it on occasion so perhaps it might happen.

Also, what is with Fluttershy’s expression? It’s like she is in some sort of daze and looking up at nothing.

The show writers haven’t seriously tackled romance, especially in a way that could be considered positive, involving the Mane Six at all yet and I very much doubt they would start with Fluttershy and Discord.

I think that in due time a romantic relationship could be forged. Discord is keen to become a better person and he slowly and surely is.
 
That said, I respect your view as well and see where you’re coming from. :) I enjoy their platonic relationship as well as shipping them.

I just love how they quarrel every season:  
RoH: Discord is pissed that he was trolled by her, then Shy is furious when she remember “that big dumb meanie” mind controlled her
 
KcaFo:They fight over the fact that Discord fooled her while he was sure to win her over anyway with chaos and ice skates
 
Princess Twilight Sparkle: Discord see the opportunity to mess up Equestria with no Elements on his path when he is scolded by Fluttershy
 
Twilight kingdom: Discord betray her and she break down crying, then he is betrayed and she forgives him
 
Make New Friends: First Discord is annoyed that Fluttershy is so clueless about his feelings and then Fluttershy is pissed that Discord is overreacting and they make a typical fight between a couple with “can you give us a minute” which was hilarious especially with him being concerned to apologize to her instead her friend that he wanted to erase

I like to think of Fluttershy as a sort of ‘motherly’ figure for Discord. They are friends, but she tends to be kind of doting for him. I’m not against Discoshy, though it isn’t my favorite.
 
I kind of like him better with Applejack……..Though this episode kind of got me interested in him with Tree Hugger too.

I was pretty sure it had been officially stated that two were just friends, I just didn’t have any details or felt it would mean anything if brought up. Sighs, I guess it is interesting that they card game would use the idea.

It’s just many people see it that way. And BoD was fully based on it, there is no need to hate on the reference because of the fanfic. They already did the reference from that disney movie in Keep calm and Flutter On with dancing candles anyway. Hasbro also have fun with it.  

 
Don’t worry about the ship. though. Jim Miller already confirmed that Discord was friendzoned by Shy when commenting on the episode.

No, no I’m sorry but comparing them to Beauty and the Beast reminds be of the terrible fanfiction Bride of Discord so the idea leaves be a little queasy.
 
I say, just have them be friends and not have it go any farther… signs, though I understand others will disagree with me.

I think they already presenteded a lot of development of their relationship. They tackled betrayal in Twilight Kingdom and now even the jealousy and possessiveness. They could as well turn romantic. It’s basically a more extended story of Beauty and Beast.

Yah, its images like these that prove to me why Fluttershy and Discord would not make a good couple in the romantic sense. More the episode itself shows me this, as it is bad enough for Discord to be the jealous, clingy friend… imagine him being Fluttershy’s special somepony.
 
I mean sure, Discord is ‘reformed’, be he is still the spirit of chaos. The draconequus does have Fluttershy has his first and closest friend, yet it has always been with the ‘chain’ that is Discord gets out of control he will lose her as such. More, given the nature of the mare he would be able to get away with a lot more then with any other ponies.
 
All in all, they can be friends but I don’t think a romantic relationshipe would be healthy… arguably even their friendship has its concerns in my eyes.

Or simpler. I don’t Discord would be the type to ‘forgo’ a threesome…….Of course, if Fluttershy just isn’t interested in either of them ‘that’ way, then it is complicated.

Fluttershy is the goose mother to Discord’s flamboyantness.

Tree Hugger looks like she’s eyeing up the goods… the male goods. This love triangle just got a lot more complicated.

Since jealousy in this situation always implied shipping, it will be hard to figure out if the artist meant romantic jealousy from shipping or platonic jealousy from the episode in all future fan art

The message of the episode also work for adults about overprotecting boyfriends/husbands. It’s good that they used this pair to do it.
