…Okay, Rarity and Rainbow Dash taking levels in jerkass was the biggest problem, but this wouldn’t have started if Diamond Tiara hadn’t opened her freaking mouth.
@rocketp0ne
Well, the reasoning behind that is more to the fact that it was Filthy’s comment that turned Rarity. Since Rarity is acting season 1-ish, she easily listened in and turned on Applejack, so Filthy shares the fault here.
Does that make him a bad guy? No, Applejack, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash act worse then him in this comic.
I’m not really understanding the perception that Filthy Rich is a bad guy, here. Because he made Rarity aware of the fact that she could benefit from her business sitting on the location of his first shop?
It didn’t really seem like he was doing it in a manipulative manner, just kind of pointing it out in an “I’m surprised that you, as a fellow business owner, aren’t on board with this.” sort of way.
@Telaros
I put faith in the writers to take note of Babs episode. Which is probably why we won’t see Babs again for quite some time, given how poorly handled the moral was.
I do hope they can either showcase an episode about Diamond’s life outside of the CMC, or her viewpoint, or even better, have her show growth and have her step away from being a bully.
@Evowizard25
I uploaded the page that glues all this whole comic’s reasoning as to why the town’s pretty pissed.
I’ll still hold out hope someone out there with a lick of pride in their writing, not that Jeremy didn’t do a decent job in that CMC Friends Forever that we got to see through Diamond and Silver Spoon’s POV, but that Hasbro will be less restrictive with how one can use these characters.
I don’t recall Charlie Brown’s antagonists getting the kind of treatment Diamond Tiara here gets, and she’s basically a Lucy when you look at her.
But yeah, stock bullies. Saves time having to create new ones I guess. I just wish we had mroe Ponyville Confidential levels of character building along with those few rare moments of like some of Twilight Time’s where the CMC weren’t painted as flawless never-do-wrongs.
Kids need to be kids. The show gets that. The comics? It does its own thing. Half of why many hate on the comics is due to how fanfic level of quality it is. Take the Friends Forever #16. Get each writer on IDW’s staff along with a different artist to each and you’d no doubt get some good to outright horribly written and drawn issues if each had the same theme.
Some characters are written better by certain writers on IDW’s staff. Others? Not so much… But that’s no different from the show with how freelance and varied each individual’s views and interpretations of the characters on the show are.
shrug
I hope the promised episode of Diamond Tiara getting real character development is Amending Fences. Though I’d hate for it to be a crotch episode where things are blamed on something easy to hand-wave the bullying away. I don’t think we need another Babs episode.
@Background Pony #BC08
You know, it’s kind of odd. In the last issue, Filthy Rich was a pretty cool guy. A big softy for his daughter and seemed rather chill and understanding. Here? Ugh, they turned that around.
@Telaros
That’s a problem with MLP. Babs can get away with physical bullying and the like because she was bullied. {And she’s related to Apple Bloom.} Diamond Tiara has gotten no characterization other than jerk. (Okay, she’s a total daddy’s girl, which was nice to see but why can’t we just have a comic about that?)She’s likely never going to get anymore for the simple reason is that it’s easy for the staff to make her the CMC antagonist.
“CMC episode in need of conflict? Bring in Diamond and Silver. Ha, who needs effort when you have stock bullies, am I right?”
It’s getting tedious. We already know Diamond is never going to walk out on top. She’s never going to win anything because ‘she’s a bully’.
Yeah, that panel with Cranky felt off. It would have made more sense to have one of the CMC, probably Scootaloo, do that.
And was with AJ here? ANd why isn’t anypony listening to Twilight? Ugh, this issue went downhill so fast that I can’t begin to think what was going through the writer’s head.
This panel is pretty telling of the ending it seems. Nice way to write DT out of ending up being given half the share of Ponyville Days Princess along with Apple Bloom McSue.
Disappointing issue that could have had some fun with world building turned into a food fight.
“…Okay, Rarity and Rainbow Dash taking levels in jerkass was the biggest problem, but this wouldn’t have started if Diamond Tiara hadn’t opened her freaking mouth.”
Because she has just as much right as Apple Bloom to be a Ponyville Day’s Princess too. It wasn’t their fault AJ and Rarity decided to take things to a level of petty war.
And adults slapping pies into fillies’ faces? I must of missed some context or something because that seems a high level of crankiness from old Cranky to do such a thing. The lack of CMC getting hit by dresses or pies is pretty sad and one-sided. So much for those 5 having some sort of actual role in this issue. It all became AJ vs Rarity and Rainbow Dash.
Way to go AJ for being a massive jerkhorse to RD to make her side with Rarity in the first place!
@RyuSpike
Hopefully. I mean, the Apples were the ones who first settled Ponyville and started the town, it was the Riches who built it up and brought ponies in. If it wasn’t for them, Ponyville wouldn’t be nearly as big as it is today.
It isn’t like Filthy is really the bad guy here. He is right to argue that his family was the first to establish trade which brought Ponyville into existence. He has practically every right to say that his family founded Ponyville as much as the Apples. Which is probably why by the end of the arc, Diamond and Apple Bloom are both going to be getting crowned princesses. Because we know that is how this will go down.
@Background Pony #5113
Exactly. So much for the “Filthy Rich is a good guy with a bad daughter” theory. ’Course, the comics are technically non-canon, so…

Perhaps it would have been better if Filthy didn’t bribe Rarity or if her turn was at least something that was slowly built up.

They might as well have built a Wal-Mart, am I right my fellow rednecks?

Well the comics might be non-canon, but I do think Filthy do spoiled his daughter sometimes.

Well she got to get her behavior from somebody right?
