Hmmmm.

Okay, after some further reading, I see that what you mean by “identifies two subjects” is that “be” in this sentence is a copulative verb.

snicker “Copulative.” giggle

cough Moving on…

At any rate, that means this isn’t an object phrase, it’s descriptive, and in particular nominative. And in such a case “I” is still correct to sticklers for Latin-derived rules, although I do see that “me” is in this case attested since around Shakespeare’s time, so I don’t feel too bad about yielding the point to you today. :^)

I believe you’re hypercorrecting. To the best of my knowledge “you and I” is not formally correct in any situation as an object, including the one you describe. I would be interested in seeing a citation to the contrary.

Actually, “you and I” is grammatically correct. In formal English, the verb “to be” doesn’t act on an object, instead it identifies two subjects, in this case “it” and “you and I”.

Of course, modern colloquial English substitutes the objective case in this situation (“It’s me” vs. “It is I”.) Celestia is just being very formal here.

“You and Me.”

“Yeees.”

“No, I mean grammatically. As part of an object phrase, it’s ‘you and me.’ The mnemonic is to imagine the sentence without the other: ‘It’ll be just me in my bedroom.’”

“Yes, I believe it will.”
