I think neodymium is the most common lanthanide around - it has better characteristics as compared to the others, is quite common and found applications early. However, each of the first 86 elements has had some out-of-the-laboratory application, whether it be now or some time before; francium is but a scientific curiosity.

Promethium is used for luminous paint. That’s one use for it.
